3rd Annual Shooting Touch Shootout Slated for Dec. 27 & 28 at Tufts University

 

Fresh off his two-page feature in our current issue on newsstands, SLAM 174, Kentucky-signee Karl Towns Jr. will be among the top prep prospects headlining the 2013 Shooting Touch Shootout this upcoming weekend at Tufts University. Check out the press release below for more information:

The inaugural “Shooting Touch Shootout” basketball tournament presented by Under Armour will take place on December 27th – 28th at Tufts University, Cousens Gym, 161 College Avenue Medford, Massachusetts. Inspired by the legendary “Boston Shootout”, the holiday tournament will feature eight high school teams from the cities up and down the east coast including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Jersey City and Baltimore.

Tournament highlights will include:

▪ Top ten player in the country Karl Towns Jr.(committed to Kentucky) from St. Joe’s showcasing skills vs. Boston’s own MIAA Division 2 state champion New Mission High School

▪ Legendary Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Bob Hurley’s St. Anthony Friars (top ten team in the country) vs. Charlestown’s High School Team

▪ Hot national team Dematha High School (top ten team in the country) from Maryland displaying enormous all around talent vs. powerhouses CBA of New Jersey and Archbishop Wood of Pennsylvania.

▪ First year female powerhouse teams will play in the tournament.

▪ Medfield, MA female varsity high school team will play international Australian team Canberra Academy as well as powerhouse   female varsity team Boston’s New Mission High School.

All tournament proceeds go back towards The Shooting Touch Sabbatical Program – referred to as “The Basketball Peace Corps”, this program provides the opportunity for gifted college graduates to work in Rwanda, dedicating an entire year of service to using basketball as a catalyst for good.
