After a few weeks of workouts, Brandon Roy has some positive news for Minnesota Timberwolves fans: he’s feeling pretty damn good about his health and game. Roy claims that he’s on his way to regaining his old game. From the Pioneer Press: “Roy, who announced his retirement in December because of a degenerative condition in his knees, says he is satisfied with his progress and is ‘not holding back’ in preparation for the 2012-13 season. ‘I’ve had no setbacks,’ the three-time NBA all-star told reporters. ‘There’s nothing stopping me from getting back to my old game. It just takes work and getting my rhythm back.’ Roy, 27, has been in Minnesota for two weeks working out with Timberwolves player development coach Shawn Respert and a handful of Wolves players, including Roy, signed by the Timberwolves as a free agent July 31 after sitting out all of last season, conceded the coaching staff has tried to ‘hold me back.’ Roy, who averaged 19.0 points per game in five seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, is determined to prove he still can play. He has had six surgeries on his knees, but he underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy in 2011 and believes that will resurrect his career. ‘I want to come in and make an impact right away,’ Roy said. ‘I want to be ready to deliver. A lot of people think I’m going to be limited. I tell them, ‘Go ahead and think that way.’ I’m not cautious about anything. I’m confident everything will go well.’ A key test for Roy will be his durability in Timberwolves training camp, which starts Oct. 2. Respert has done most of the work with Roy and is impressed with his progress. ‘He’s getting better and better, and that’s the sign we’re looking for,’ Respert said. ‘He hadn’t played a lot of high-level five-on-five stuff before he got here, but you can tell he’s done enough. We saw it today, that after he finds his rhythm and gets his second wind, he really gets back to some of those short stints you saw him do throughout his career.'”
