Charles Barkley Says He Would Shoot His Former Agent

by August 28, 2015

Charles Barkley has held a grudge against Lance Luchnick, his first NBA agent, for nearly three decades now.

Sir Charles told Dan Patrick during an appearance on his show Friday that he would “blow (Lunchnick’s) damn brains out” if they ever crossed paths again.

Barkley insists that the San Antonio-based attorney stole millions from him early on in his career.

Per the Express-News:

Barkley: “He stole all my money. He’s a scumbag. If I see him today, I’d blow his damn brains out. I hate that S.O.B. His name is Lance (Luchnick). He’s a scumbag.”

Patrick: “Well, how did he take all your money?” […] Barkley: “Well back then, I think players are a lot more smarter now. Your agent got your paycheck, he gave you an allowance, and he ‘invested’ the rest of your money. I was getting $15,000 a month allowance just to have fun with and I’m a 21-year old kid. That came at the first of every month and man I didn’t care. He said, ‘I’m investing the rest.’ I’m like, ‘OK.’ And after four years, I was broke, hadn’t paid taxes. Like I said, I don’t want to mention his name — Lance (Luchnick).”

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Luchnick negotiated Barkley’s first NBA contract, for $11 million over six years, after his selection at fifth overall by Philadelphia in the 1984 draft. […] Barkley would eventually cite “problems” with Luchnick before the relationship fell apart completely. That led to Luchnick’s suspension by the National Basketball Players Association and a $5 million ruling in Barkley’s favor despite the finding of an independent arbiter that he was the victim of excessive fees rather than outright theft.
