Gregg Popovich Forced LaMarcus Aldrige to Miss Practice: ‘Welcome to the Spurs’

Player care and maintenance are hallmarks of the way the San Antonio Spurs do things, as newcomer LaMarcus Aldridge is quickly discovering.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich held LMA out of practice Tuesday, this despite the big fella’s insistence on participating.

Aldridge is dealing with leg tightness, and the team sat him down as a precautionary measure.

Per the Express-News:

“We sat him out,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He didn’t want to do it. I said, ‘Welcome to the Spurs. Go sit.’”

Aldridge’s light morning at least kept him fresh to make his debut in the Spurs’ iconic H-E-B commercials, which began filming this afternoon. The Spurs’ most high-profile free agent addition maybe ever, Aldridge remains on pace to make his preseason debut Thursday night in Sacramento.

Popovich added the Spurs won’t carry their entire preseason roster to Sacramento, citing the logistics of playing 20 players. In general, however, Popovich indicated this could be a busier preseason than usual for veteran holdovers like Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.
