J.R. Smith May Be in Space Jam 2 ‘if LeBron Says He Wants Me to Do it’

by May 09, 2016

What’s the point of having a “Space Jam” sequel if J.R. Smith isn’t going to be in it?

The Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard says he’s unsure if he’ll have a role in the film’s shooting this summer, but says it depends on whether or not superstar teammate LeBron James vouches for him.

LBJ has so far side-stepped all questions regarding the rumored movie, only allowing that his team is “taking care of that.”

Per the NEOMG:

Warner Bros. has hired a writer to build a script for the sequel to the original smash Space Jam, which starred Michael Jordan in 1996. James is the likely star of the film, though no deal has been announced nor has a director been hired or a release date set. Nor, for that matter, has Smith personally had discussions with the movie studio about a role.

Smith said that “I’m not sure if I’m going to do it yet. I’ve got some other things I want to do this summer,” Smith said. “I figure the biggest thing is if LeBron says he wants me to do it.”

Told of Smith’s comments after the Cavs beat the Atlanta Hawks 100-99 Sunday to sweep an Eastern semifinal playoff series in four games, James said: “My team is taking care of that. […] I want J.R. to do everything,” James said. “Obviously, I’ve got so much other stuff right now that I’m not even. I may have some time this week. So if I get a phone call throughout this week, I’ll let you know. I haven’t even brought that up.”
