Larry Brown, who has won an NCAA and NBA title as a coach, will be taking his talents to Texas. The 71-year-old Brown is reportedly close to becoming the head coach at SMU.

Brown last coached the Charlotte Bobcats in 2010 and has expressed a desire for the last two years to get back on the sideline. A North Carolina alum, Brown won the NCAA title with Kansas in 1988 and an NBA title with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.

His hiring will mark a change in culture for a team headed to the Big East in 2013, and he will lay a foundation for when he is gone.

From The Dallas Morning News:

Because Brown is 71 and well-traveled during his long NBA and college coaching career, he is keen on hiring Buzz Peterson, the current UNC Wilmington coach, working as an assistant at SMU, essentially a coach-in-waiting, according to the source.

SMU finished last season with a 13-19 record.
