LeBron James on the Cavs: ‘We Can Win a Championship’

by February 19, 2015

The Cleveland Cavaliers are likely to stay pat at the trade deadline, having been plenty active in the summer and early months of the regular season.

LeBron James is thrilled with his front-office’s moves, and has no reason to complain about his team’s play heading into the NBA All-Star break. He thinks they’re a title contender as presently constructed.

The Cavs have won 14 of their last 16 ballgames, and LeBron wants them focused on improving instead of necessarily climbing the Eastern Conference standings.

Per the NEOMG:

“Oh we can win a championship, yeah, with this roster,” James said Thursday, following the Cavs’ practice before the fly to Washington to resume their schedule Friday against the Wizards.

James said he hasn’t “thought about anything else” as far as additional trades, following the team’s acquisition of J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert (Jan. 5) and Timofey Mozgov (Jan. 7). […] “Obviously, health is a huge thing, clicking at the right time,” James said. “The team that’s clicking at the right time, is healthy at the right time, can make a huge push. I believe we can make a push to win one. Does it guarantee that? Of course not, we still gotta go out and play. But this roster can challenge any team out there.”

“Those teams have more experience than us,” James said. “And more chemistry than us. They’ve been in playoff series more than us. So we can’t be worried about trying to compete against those guys. Obviously the competition, once you get out there you are competing against the individual and the team, but for us and in order for us to get where we want to be, we have to challenge ourselves. […] Because we can’t catch Chicago, we can’t catch Washington, we can’t catch Toronto and Atlanta as far as the chemistry and playoff experience, because we haven’t played one game together so, we can’t be trying to catch teams.”
