Report: Marc Gasol Only Meeting With the Grizzlies in Free Agency

Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol reportedly has no interest in some kind of free agency whirlwind.

The big fella is apparently only going to meet with the Grizzlies, hosting their front-office reps Wednesday back home in Spain, and making his return to Memphis a foregone conclusion.

It’s not yet clear what kind of pact—a short term deal or a five-year max contract in the $110 million range—the 30-year old Gasol is after.

Per ESPN:

In the latest signal Marc Gasol is going nowhere in free agency, the Memphis Grizzlies center is scheduling no meetings with rival teams interested in him, according to league sources.

Gasol’s representatives, sources say, will undoubtedly field cursory calls from potential suitors once free agency begins after midnight ET on Tuesday night. […] But all indications are that Gasol and the Grizzlies will quickly reach terms on a new deal that keeps one of the league’s top two-way centers with the only franchise he has ever known.

What is clear is that teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks — all of whom had designs on making a run at the Spaniard in free agency — have essentially abandoned those plans. […] The same goes for the San Antonio Spurs, who were widely believed to be the only team that had a shot at luring Gasol out of his Memphis comfort zone that dates back to his high school days when brother Pau was still playing for the Grizzlies.
