Rockets Owner on Kevin McHale’s Firing: ‘I Had to Do Something’

After being given his walking papers Wednesday, Kevin McHale diplomatically fell on his sword for the 4-7 Houston Rockets.

(It probably helps that he’s owed $12 million this season, which lasted only 11 games for the Hall of Famer.)

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander explained the rationale behind getting rid of the popular head coach so quickly.

Per the Houston Chronicle:

“The team was obviously not responding on on offense; on defense we weren’t playing hard. It continued for a while.

“I’ve never seen my team play as poorly and with less effort. I’m not attributing it to the coach. I had to do something.”

Alexader said he didn’t watch the fourth quarter of Monday’s loss to the Celtics, which was the final straw.
