There were six NBA games last night, and we finally have some kind of sample size to look at involving the new composite basketball. There’s been a deafening roar about the ball, both good and bad, but thus far the ball has only been used in scrimmages, behind closed doors. Spalding says everyone is overreacting, though the fact that everyone is reacting is pretty interesting.
Before we get to last night’s numbers, let’s remember that there’s a lot of guys getting major minutes who probably wouldn’t normally be out there during regular NBA action. Also, the guys are just starting to get their feel back, so one month from now this may all be moot.
(So why even bother taking a closer look at last night’s numbers? Well, isn’t that what blogs are for?)
Anyway, twelve teams were in action last night. Let’s look at turnovers (obviously) and three pointers, because threes are the one shot where your grip and hold on the ball are always essential.

DALLAS: 17 turnovers, .133 from three.
NEW ORLEANS: 13 turnovers, .200 from three.
MEMPHIS: 20 turnovers, .273 from three.
HOUSTON: 24 turnovers, .250 from three.
