Tim Donaghy Is Sorry

by Marcel Mutoni

In a lot of ways, this whole Tim Donaghy scandal is old news. It’s been established that he was the only ref in on the take (at least the only one who’s been caught), and as far as I can tell, it’s business as usual in the NBA.

Those who claim that they’re never going to watch a game again (as a result of this scandal) are the same people who disliked the product to begin with; true fans realize that this was just one man with a serious gambling problem who made a terrible mistake.

It’s a huge black eye for the League, sure, but it’s also (thankfully) not the end of the world. Yesterday, a NY Daily News reporter finally got Don-a-gie to speak to the press:

“I’m very sorry about what happened,” Donaghy said.

I love how he was then photographed playing with his kids and adorable puppy in their backyard. See: he’s not such a bad guy!

In completely unrelated news: Thanks to the guys at All Bets Are Off, a sports radio show on Sports Time Ohio in Cleveland, for having me on as a guest yesterday afternoon. We talked about the Cavs and their search for a point guard, Boston’s chances in the East next season, and Eazy Yi’s heroic quest to find a hot Chinese girlfriend (seriously). Good times.
