Enes Kanter Exercises Player Option with Celtics

Boston Celtics center Enes Kanters has elected to exercise his 2020-21 player option worth $5.0 million, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reports. Kanter signed the two-year pact last offseason.

While the 28-year-old saw a reduced role in his first season with the Celtics, he was still productive in the time that he did see. Kanter averaged 8.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in just over 16 minutes of action.

Kanter’s player option decision adds to what could be a lofty payroll in the event that teammate Gordon Hayward also exercises his player option, as this year is when Jaylen Brown’s rookie scale extension begins to take effect.

Kanter provide offense in the frontcourt for Boston but shares times with the more defensively oriented Daniel Theis and Robert Williams.
