Kristaps Porzingis Debut Could Come in Next Couple Weeks

Kristaps Porzingis has yet to make his 2020-21 NBA debut as he recovers from a knee injury he suffered in the Orlando bubble. On Christmas Day, Rick Carlisle gave an update on his status.

“At this point, I’m confident it’s weeks not months, but that’s all I’m going to tell you.”

On Tuesday, Carlisle gave further insight into the situation, giving optimism that his return might be sooner than later. Porzingis was a full go in practice, signalling that he is getting closer to game action.

While there is no timetable for him to return to action, Carlisle said his debut could be in the next couple of weeks.

“Sometime in the next couple of weeks isn’t far-fetched. It isn’t certain, either. I think we just have to go day to day with it and hope that things can keep moving in a positive direction.”

The Mavericks could really use Porzingis going forward. As the second-best player on the team, he makes life easier for Luka Doncic. Dallas has struggled on the boards this season, which is something that could naturally fix itself upon Porginzis’ return to action.

Last season, Kristaps Porzingis averaged 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting .352 from deep.
