The Knicks are reportedly in no rush to make a deal happen prior to the Feb.24 trade deadline, but according to the Daily News, New York’s front-office is keeping close tabs on Marc Gasol and Joel Przybilla: “While [Jim] Dolan hardly looked thrilled Monday night, it’s not because he’s down on his team. Dolan is also not pushing team president Donnie Walsh to make a Carmelo Anthony trade. Dolan, according to a league source, is not pressuring Walsh to upgrade the Knicks, who will take a 23-21 record into the Garden against the Heat after avoiding the .500 mark with their win over the Wizards. ‘He’s not getting any heat from above,’ said the source, referring to Walsh. With the trading deadline still 30 days away, Walsh and the Knicks seem to be more focused on adding a big man and shoring up the backcourt than going after a major piece in Anthony … The Knicks’ main competition for a big man is said to be Orlando, which traded reserve center Marcin Gortat last month to the Suns in the deal that brought Hedo Turkoglu to the Magic. The Magic miss Gortat’s defense and board work and would like to address that area. Among big men, the Knicks reportedly have talked about Portland’s Joel Przybilla and Memphis’ Marc Gasol. However, they have concerns about Przybilla’s health and whether he’d be a good fit in their offense. With Marcus Camby out for at least a month following knee surgery, Przybilla is starting now and perhaps will be able to allay some concerns that he has not fully recovered from a severe knee injury. As for Gasol, the Knicks and several other teams believe that Memphis will not deal him and instead will attempt to re-sign the restricted free agent this summer.”
