Video: Miami Heat Ask Their Fans to ‘Fan Up’

The sad (yet endlessly hilarious) thing about these promos, is that they weren’t created with any sense of irony or embarrassment. Failure:

They should have gave me the 35 seconds. The in-house DJ, two cheerleaders, the public address announcer, a Golden Oldie broad and a dude in a banana suit ain’t gonna get these late-ass fans motivated. Actually, they should have had this sh*t in Spanish. That would work way better for the fanbase.

  • JTaylor21

Heat fans SUCK, how the hell can there be empty seats when guys like bron and wade are playing. If cloning was an option, I would clone a 150 JTs just to watch these guys play. The nba should move the heat to seattle where they would love and appreciate this team, sorry EBoy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Is there ANY other city in the league that this would happen? Please, name just one.

  • http://www.nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Generally speaking, Miami Heat fans suck. Sorry Eboy, blame it on the Latinos all you want. My Mexican-American ass was never late to a Bulls game, and I couldn’t have given a sh*t if P. Diddy himself was throwing a party in some bar in the United Center, I wouldn’t leave my seat for anything but a beer in between quarters and a bathroom break to p*ss out said beer. Y’all got LeBron, Wade and Bosh and yet everytime I watch a Heat home game I see way too many empty red seats. Lame.

  • http://uiandtherest.com ap

I guess even King James can’t fill the seats in Miami. All that hype..and still can’t put a$$es in the seats. FAIL!

  • underdog

Guess they need to cut the ticket prices a little bit. Or maybe the season-ticket holders (companies?) have better things to do than watch Heat games.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

FAN UP!!! thats that new! Tired of all this fickle bandwagoners around here, not just for Miami and not even just in basketball. Sports fans need to FAN UP in general!!

  • http://www.nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I agree with Black Rick. Really, if you turn on any NBA game playing in almost any city, it’s a damn shame. I’m so freakin’ tired of seeing the chicks who are just looking down at their phones the entire game, or the dudes who don’t even like basketball, but have courtside seats because it’s a status symbol or they wanted to entertain some clients who also don’t even like basketball. Meanwhile the true fans are up in the nosebleeds. You know what used to tick me off at Bulls games? When Benny the Bull and other people who go around shooting the shirts out of those t-shirt canon looking things. And people would yell and go nuts, and I’m like “F*CK the shirts, did y’all just see the move D. Rose made?” But noooo, they’re going on yelling and screaming over some damn shirts. Or how about when we beat a team like 99 to 73 but the fans go home pissed because they don’t get their free big macs. Man, f*ck a big mac, we just won by 26!! But it’ll never change though, it is what it is. I just gotta live with the fact that I’m rooting for my team from two thousand miles away a thousand times as hard as the dude sitting courtside.

  • fruizm

i think nba fans should be taken to a soccer game in south america…or a champions league game….they would learn a thing or two about being a fan…..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Really, it should just say “Be here on time, or stay the fu*k home, we’ve already got your money”.

  • max

@black rick. Thats why I barely ever went to NBA games, its boooring, no atmosphere at all and way overpriced in comparison to college games or sport-events in Europe in general.
@enigmatic haha, I’ve actually been at a game where the fans threw those shirts back on the court, ’cause the team was playing like sh!t

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/farmer-jones/ Ryan Jones

I have no allegiance to Miami or the Heat organization, and with a few exceptions would be thrilled if that entire state disappeared into the Atlantic. That said, what is Miami? It’s a city of immigrants (i.e. people who didn’t grow up with a connection to the city’s sports franchises) that also has year-round nice weather. In other words, great combination for people not going to sporting events, professional or otherwise. Miami teams have always struggled to fill seats. NBA tickets are expensive as sh*t. The economy is terrible. Is it realistic to expect 20,000 people to fill that building night in, night out?
And is the core group of Heat fans – the ones who can actually afford tickets anyway — really “worse” than fans in Chicago or San Antonio, or is it just smaller?
The video, though? Yeah, the video is really lame.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Ryan, the Chicago Bulls have led the NBA in attendance the last decade. Yeah, I think they’re better than Miami fans.

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

COSIGN JTAYLOR 21! Seattle fans would pack the joint
every game. Was watching the game last night and couldnt believe how empty it was. How does the Heat
    make money?

  • tRay

I agree with Enigmatic and Black Rick now a days these fans are so damn fickled it’s not even funny. I’m from LA and when I go to Laker games all I see is retard “fans” talking about ish that dooesn’t even matter. I’m the only one screaming and this broad next to me is texting her a$$ off. It’s a damn shame.

  • http://bulls.com airs

@enigmatic speaks the truth. tired of those yuppies in 100 level that golf clap at everything, especially when im the only one around them wearing a rose shirt and they’re laced out in $800 shoes and crap. last time i was in 300 level they were goin nuts and it was so much fun. but as long as 100 level tix stay near $200 thats the way its gonna be.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

airs…..you can’t get a 100 level ticket to a Heat game without putting out about triple that amount. And that’s just an average lower bowl seat. That’s where the problem lies.

  • http://bulls.com airs

yeah, thats just for a game against like the pacers. 300 level can run you over 100 against the lakers

  • penuelas

while i agree that the video is extremely lame, the heat season tickets are completely sold out and they fired all of the season ticket sales staff because they are simply not needed. Brion “i wonder how the heat make money” you have no clue what you are talking about. game yesterday was a 7pm start which is extremely early. not sure how traffic is in the dump known as cleveland, but in miami it takes a while to go get to the arena. plus, they have security lines to get to the arena that resemble that of tsa. go to a game in person and tell me there is no atmosphere. you chicago fans can have your fat polish chics, we got models and lebron baby

  • kobesBESTfriend

I guarantee you if Mamba played 4 the Heat the place would be packed everynight!who wants 2 see a false King who hasn’t won anything at all yet and quits on his team?

  • Shem

Man, i’ve been consistently going to Raps games for years and we’ve been to the 2nd round once in 15 years. Miami fans gotta pick it up cuz they’re lucky they have such a good team

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I once paid for an extra seat for the giant deuce I was gonna lay in the first quarter. It was a better fan than anyone courtside.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

penuelas is my type of dude!

  • ClydeSays

Don’t think it’s just Miami. Even in their Championship year, they had ppl roll in whenever… Laker fans too…

Hawks, Nets, Bobcats, Hornets, Twolves and a few others never seem to fill their arenas…

  • Exile

I remember that story (tickets being sold out), but it does look bad when Raptor games have MUCH more fan intensity (at least that is how it represents on TV). Especially when you consider the prospects of the two teams.

  • rand33p

the fans arriving late is horrible.. don’t they know they only got lebron for 44 minutes max

  • last dance

  • whoooo!

anyone from Miami know if they jacked up the ticket prices this season? i get angry that a lot of the fake fans that end up to the games are there because the true die-hard fans have legitimate financial concerns. i’d love to see cheaper ticket prices in general (and let the grater turnout and additional revenue from concessions, parking, merchandise, etc, compensate for the cuts).

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

Penislas….i wouldnt know about clevelands traffic
    either being im from Seattle.

  • T-Money

There seems to be confusion around this: the tickets are sold. The attendance is at 19,600. Every game. There are no season tickets left to be sold. The issue is that the people buying the tickets can’t be bothered with showing up on time – or even at all. Which is actually worse, mind you. But hey.

  • T-Money

What’s interesting from a socioeconomic standpoint is that the upper bowl is always filled to capacity at tip off. Make of that what you will.

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

Wasnt trying to start a debate w/ Penislas, just seemed empty when watching the games on T.V

  • flight

Bring these boys to toronto, us canadians would treat these fans much better than the heat.

  • Hammer

I remember when bulls were @ their worst, the uc would still have sell-outs. That’s tru fans right there. Miami is just a overall bad sports city. Doesn’t fully appreci8 their teams unless they n the world series or playoffs/finals. And that’s fugazi apreciation if u ask me. And then they wonder what’s up w/the hate. Whatever man

  • KING

Bring them to San Diego. I would pay anything to see Dwyane Wade play on a nightly basis

  • slamfan4life

    lmfao @ MIA

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

Dude they in MIAMI. All these season ticket holders have about 163 other more interesting things to do than watch a basketball game. Almost all of them involving getting wasted and getting la!d. I’m not saying it’s acceptable, but it’s the situation at the moment.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

False King, Flash wants name change, Rupaul is playing better, I wouldn’t go to the games either until they made the playoffs. Also LePippen should have went to the Bulls or Knicks anyway. This is what the LeDecision gets, maybe next time he won’t console his Guru who speaks no English. Like Cuban said I am glad this team is struggling and their own fans don’t care about the team. BOOK IT!!

  • The Philosopher

    The Seed:
I should tell everybody how you told me that… YOU LOVE THE KING!!!
    Imagine that? lol

  • http://blogs.thescore.com/tbj/author/hollymackenzie/ Ghost

Miami’s got better sh*t to do. Even if two of the best ball players are playing for them.

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

Now this is weird. Everytime I click on the Seed’s name it redirects me here:

  • Clydesays

Seems to remember that even during the Heat’s championship year, they had a half empty arena and late arrivals. Worst attendance has to be Nets, Bobcats, Hawks & Hornets…

  • Justin

I’m still cringing at the thought of 150 more JT’s.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    Bust him out phil

  • flipnoyce

Fan Up MIAMI, WOW….Seriously fan up. With thwo(lol) and a half superstar in this team nobody wants to watch some games,COME ON! I wonder why no one wants to show up on time or not at all. Because Miami is a BIG hype even before the THRICE showed up and came together. Even in the post season and specially, specially when they WON the championship I saw a lot of empty seats. Lets face it, the city is not a sports fanatic town, maybe they should put a soccer team instead and have James play goalie, DWade as a striker and Bosh still as a forward.

  • flipnoyce

Went to Miami many of times and the city just seems dead like nothing is going on, even Panama city got more shit to do than this HYPE city. All that b.s. they be showing on music t.v. is fabricated. I’m sorry but it is what it is. Sports is just not for this town, sorry for those few die hard Heat fans its not you it’s your city!!!!

  • Era

As a european, it is sad to see any NBA games. Even the so called playoff athmosphere in most citys doesn’t even compare to friendlies of our 2nd division soccer club. And I’m talkin germany here, don’t get me started about the nutjobs from Greece/Turkey. Maybe its because of ticket prices, but from a distance it seems like fans in NBA Arenas like to keep to themselves instead of enjoying the game as collective experience with 20k others.
I also see a lot of guys take their girls to games. You rarely see that here unless the girl is a die hard fan, too.
Atleast you don’t have annoing nazi Ultras that occupy a certain area of the arena.
