Video: Romeo Travis Fights in Israeli Cup

Romeo Travis, high school teammate and close friend of LeBron James, took down former USC Trojan David Blu in the third quarter of the Israeli Cup Final last week. The Jerusalem Post recounts the brawl: “With 3:54 remaining in the third period, and Maccabi leading by a commanding 26-point lead, Romeo Travis got into a tussle with David Blu while jockeying for rebounding position and knocked him to the parquet. The two were far away from the ball, and the other players rushed over to join in what turned into a free-for-all. Some of the players tried to physically separate those were fighting from one another, but others, like Greek Maccabi center Sofoklis Schortsanitis took the opportunity to get in a few jabs. When the smoke cleared, the referees ejected two players from each team from the game – Blu and Schortsanitis from Maccabi, and Travis and Adrian Banks from Netanya.”

I know Romeo pretty well. He’s a good dude, and as anyone who’s seen the LeBron doc knows, he’s always had a temper, too.
And for what it’s worth, LeBron takes very good care of Romeo and the other guys from his HS teams.
I think the best part of this clip is watching the one ref backpedal away from the action. He does not want it.

    BIG lol.
Basketball players are the worst fighters in sports. The only basketball players that knew how to fight were Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Kareem, and Charles Oakley.
    And, Victor Page… lol

Damn Sofo, where were you hiding the shiv, son?
i laughed my butt off at the commentators shouting “opa, opa, opa” as the two started wrestling.
Interesting how terms can be used in another language and mean something entirely different. OPAAA used to be a happy shout where i grew up.

  • Overtime

European ball looks like the NHL, fights happen and refs just watch?

  • Ronald

@Overtime: Makes more sense for the refs to stay out of fights. Both for the benefit of the ref and the players. Players punching players is one thing, but if a player knockouts a ref by mistake it just might become a full on criminal charge.

  • Fat Lever

    Blu’s about to get Exile’d.

He had a lot of time to connect one in the jugular but I guess he wanted to cradle the guy instead! Reminded me of the movie WITHOUT A PADDLE, when Seth Green was cradled by a gorilla, lol!

@Yknot, good one. I shall forever refer to Chris Childs as “The Mongoose”

  • Fat Lever

Hahaha, Black Rick Kamla, the fact you know who and what I’m talking about means that you listen to good music, so props.
