Patty Mills’ Buzzer-Beating 3-Pointer Helps Australia Upset Russia (VIDEO)

The Spurs guard comes through in the clutch.

In late-game situations, you always need to watch the player in-bounding the ball. This is something you’ll hear coaches—at all levels—beg of their players, and, earlier today, San Antonio Spurs guard and former St. Mary’s star Patty Mills showed why with this buzzer-beating 3-pointer. The shot gave Australia (3-1) an 82-80 win over previously undefeated Russia, who fell to 4-1 with the loss.

    It was a heck of a game. I was jumping up and down around the tv like an absolute maniac watching that game/final shot. Very, very proud to be an Australian today.
    And Russia played hard too, they didn’t play second-string players, they wanted to win that.
    David Blatt (sp) (Russian coach) said during the time-out prior to the final play “force the outside shot, if they make it, they make it and we move on”.
    Excellent game.

    What an amazing finish to what was already such an exciting game! Go Patty and C’mon Aussies!!! To think I was cringing when he first launched the shot (he was 1-8 or something before that from 3pt). Shouldn’t have doubted. Ingles is coming up huge for Aus too!

    Patty hit a hard shot with two guys coming at him with hardly any time – but it was
    a HUGE double pick set by Dellavedova to get him open. A hard fought win.
