Raymond Felton: Now Off to Dallas?

by Marcel Mutoni

Raymond Felton’s name has appeared in trade rumors all season long, and the latest buzz has him being shipped off to Dallas. Depending on which media entity you want to believe, the deal was supposed to also include Nazr Mohammed and Sean May.

Here’s the Boston Globe‘s take:

An NBA source said a three-team trade is in the works that would include Oklahoma City sending guard Earl Watson to Charlotte, Dallas sending center DeSagana Diop to Charlotte, and Charlotte guard Raymond Felton going to Dallas.

According to ESPN, however, trade talks have cooled off, in part due to rookie DJ Augustin’s ab injury (expected to knock him out of action for a minimum of 10 days.)

It’s unclear at this point whether or not these talks will lead to any real moves (or will even resume), but for argument’s sake, say Felton somehow ends up in Dallas, is it a good move for Cuban and co.?

Felton is younger than Kidd. that is all.

Bad move for dallas, why do we need another pg who thinks he’s a sg, and we have to give up our best defensive option at center. Please don’t do it mark!

OKC: So do we get anything in the deal?
CHA: Nah, you get to be on the recieving end of a terrible deal.
DAL: Like you have been the last half decade?
    CHA: Something like that.

the mavs need to play some defense and for dirk to break outta his slump. The trade is ok ONLY if they trade josh howard.

WTF? Really? Really Mark Cuban? You think bringing in a stockier version of Jason Terry is the answer?

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.12 at 11:00 am
    this makes NO sence.

How does this help any of the three teams?

This only makes sense for dallas if they intend on using j kidds expiring deal as trade bait for a big name

  • nbk Posted: Jan.12 at 11:43 am
Kidd – Barea – Terry – Felton wow thats smart

  • Joey E Posted: Jan.12 at 12:52 pm
    lol NBK is right.
unless they start Felton or Terry then it looks ok.
They obviously have no plans of re-signing Kidd and it looks like they want a PG for the future after getting rid of Harris. JJB is nice, but isnt a lead PG IMO

I remember when he got drafted after dwill and cp3, thats crazy i kinda forgot about this dude. But Dal shouldn’t make anymore trades, they kinda f*ck everything up when they do. LOL they had devin harris! i feel bad for them kinda.

wait what does oklahoma get out of this ? a used condom ?

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.12 at 4:00 pm
We wont trade Raymond because DJ is injured and because he actually LIKES Larry Brown and Larry likes him. Its just rumors because MJ/Rod Higgins tag team partners DO NOT like Felton. But MJ/Rod both respect Larry’s views more than their own. Its a wonderful life.

They dont need a trade they just need a good ol’ fashin’ MJ sucker punch in practice to a teammate ala horace grant, from thier leader Dirk to ignite his teammates. My pick Josh Howard not that i would pay for

  • nbk Posted: Jan.12 at 4:40 pm
Bet don’t you think it is possible that it would be BETter for your cats to have one PG of the future instead of 2?

  • Fleezy Posted: Jan.12 at 5:41 pm
Felton was the point guard of the future a couple years ago. we are now at the future. i am underwhelmed. maybe it is because he was in, in my opinion, better than CP3 and D-Will at the college level. Does Raymond even have a nickname in the NBA???

Even though I reported this one, it doesn’t benefit Dallas at all.

  • David Posted: Jan.12 at 6:51 pm
If OKC’s really involved then it means that Presti is taking someone’s draft picks. I don’t know how the Okla-Bandits are going to pay all these draft picks for very long, though.

  • BETCATS Posted: Jan.12 at 6:59 pm
nbk: I think that this season is not DJ’s break out year. When DJ gets ready to start, trade Felton. Until then, no.

  • Russ Bengtson Posted: Jan.13 at 12:39 am
Wouldn’t it be cool if weights had to match in trades instead of salaries? Of course then Sean May could get traded for an entire starting five.

=P leave it to russ to deliver and at least evoke an reaction after reading through a whole bunch of underwhelming responses to an altogether underwhelming news piece about an underwhelming player..

I’m predicting a similar career course for Ty Lawson once he turns pro. Its hard to judge talent on those UNC teams. Not knowing where to draw the line between the individual’s abilities and team strength makes it harder to predict what said player would do as on a (relatively) less talented squad in the League.

[...] Because you know what the Mavs really need to become a better team? Another point guard. [...]
