Magic Make a Big Catch

Sources say Brandon Bass will be backing up Dwight “Cracker Barrel” Howard for the next four seasons: “The Orlando Magic have met their No. 1 goal in free agency this off-season: adding a big man. An NBA source has told the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic and free-agent power forward Brandon Bass have reached an agreement in principle for a four-year deal.”

The Magics will be fun to watch this season.

I think that’s a solid pickup, if not a bit undersized. I like Bass’s game.

Now this is nice signing. Ooohweee, things are going to be nice in the league next year. I may have to rethink my decision to cancel League pass. Brandon Bass is exactly what Dwight Howard needs banging with him on the block. Now the Magic can roll with a traditional lineup of Jameer, Vince, Shard, Bass and Dwight. That’s a good lineup.

With Peitrus coming off the bench. They will miss Gortat but Battie is serviceable

    great signing!

  • riggs

battie is in new jersey is he not?

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

NOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo! Hell naw! Cuban wiill be the end of me soon! I.can’t.believe.this.crap! Cubed is letting Maxiell-West go? Even before we know if Orlando shall match the offer sheet for Gortat? This was THE guy the Mavs had to keep, not creaky Jason! Oh lord, there goes any semblance of athleticsm and muscle off the bench. Lovely, the Mavs just got worse, no matter if the old Matrix shows up for next season. Only way to balance this out would be a Glen Davis or Milsap signing. Orlando’s gonna LOVE Brandon, they are looking good again.

The Cavs are going to KILL Orlando next time they meet. They can now guard D.howard , Vince and Shard with single coverage. Plus, the Magic’s main playmaker in the perimeter just signed with another team.
Cleveland did not lose a big piece, they added a HUGE one..

Do Not get me wrong, I love Bbass. his game is polished, he is improving, he is Athletic!, has a midrange shot… he is really good.
But the Magic did not improve thus far. They lost two starters for christ sakes! And their two big man coming off the bench are gone too (yes battie was traded to New Jersey, and Mark Cuban got Gortat)
and the Cavs did nothing but get a LOT better this offseason. Sorry but the Magic have no chance against Cleveland in 09/10

Shard at the 3 is actually a better match up for Cleveland. He won’t do nothing off the dribble vs. James.

  • Ken

I like this pickup. I think Bass will add some toughness and hustle…the magic’s forwards were mostly finesse guys before they got Bass.

Yeah Z, but LBJ didn’t gaurd the 3 against Orlando…

  • mike

Can we get a vince-dwight cover already? Its been like two weeks since VC got traded get with it!

You know what team’s going to lead the league in dunks, right Slam? (And who’s going to lead the league in alley-oop passes)

  • Momma No Like Cold

Good pick up for the Magic. Bass is solid.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

yup, cosign mike, that would be some cover!

  • la huey

I think the Magic still have the edge on Cleveland. The Cavs typically have LBJ match-up with the weakest perimeter threat so that he can roam on defense. There’s no Courtney Lee to leave unattended this time around.

  • http://sjsu.edu davidR

dallas better find someone to replace him

  • itsmikev

pancho, you are a good joke! keep that positive spirit up son, but the cavs won’t be doing jack sht. if you think shaq is your big piece, your head is screwed up!!! i guess you forgot that mike brown is still coaching!!

bottom line is, celtics/lakers stay healthy, the cavs don’t have a chance of getting a ring! oh and that magic line up will still smoke the cavs.

  • http://www.another48minutes.blogspot.com Gerard Himself

davidR: no need for that. The forward rotation will mostly contain out of Dirk, Marion and Singleton.

  • http://www.anwilson.blogspot.com/ rainman10

    and Josh Howard.

josh “im black so the star spangled banner dont mean siht to me, and thats the truth whether you want to hear it or not” howard, is now the starting 2. huge pickup by orl. they still need a legit backup center. i wonder what their starting lineup will be.

  • http://yahoo.com looman40

@pancho: ur comment was pretty dumb dude. there main playmaker did leave, but now they have vince carter, and i would take bass over battie and gortat any day. the cavs are going to be really good next year, but i agree with spaceship jay

  • La Maravilla

Oh yeah I like this catch Brandon can hoop and he is strong as hell they gonna be beating people up men

  • D12FSU

remember last season when everyone said the Cavs were gonna kill the magic, and tha they had no chance……remeber what happened then???? so lets wait till June to see whos better than who……………magic

  • http://slamonline Blaze

Magic still neeed back-up guards. In case Nelson and Carter have injuries.

  • Tuomas

Crap, woulda loved him in Detroit.

  • Krishan

Still does not make up for what they lost with turk bailing. Yeah, even with VC there.

  • Josh D

This is a gr8 signing, but it ain’t gonna get the Magic to improve dramatically like all the other teams who r contenders if theyda kept Turkoglu then had another shot at the Finals, but my very early prediction is the Spurs beat the Cavs in the Finals next year

  • Gregory

This is a guy signing for the Magic, mainly cause Peitrus is now the sixth man instead of Reddick. Shaq is a big signing for Cleveland, but he takes up a lot of room in the paint, a place Lebron loves to go to. So now when they play Orlando, James not only has to go through Dwight to get to the basket, but an aging, over weight Shaq as well.

  • http://slamonline Blaze

I know Dwight likes to have fun and stuff, would be dope if he pulled a Horace Grant and rocked the blue googles next season.

  • http://www.anwilson.blogspot.com/ rainman10

or if he pulled a Patrick and wore short shorts and knee pads.

  • Bmore-Mike

Anything with VC on the cover is nasty!! That would be the only slam I walk right by. Cancel League Pass, are you crazy?

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com/ TADOne

The Magic are ready to make a repeat performance in the Finals.

  • http://Nicekicks.com Hollywud15

Do peopl eactually think Turkalou is better than VC?? if so, take up hockey cuz basketball is NOT your forte

  • Krishan

Hollyhud, I believe turk is better than VC for orlando’s system. But we’ll see. They lost lee, alston, turk and gortat. Amazingly, those 4 guys played BIG for them in the playoffs. And then not even one month into the off season they let those guys go. Going back to the finals might not be that easy for them next season, and right now I’m pretty sure the odds are stacked against them with the Cavs and Boston bulking up relatively better.

  • D12FSU

first thing….we were going to get rid of alston no matter what, the magic dont want jameer looking over his shoulder thinking he could be replaced any minute….so with that…..Jammer is better than Rafer…Ryan Anderson and Bass is better than Battie….and VC is better than lee…yes hedo was a good system guy, but why cant VC be just as affective as Hedo?…if we keep Gortat…then we will be better than last year

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Let’s get this straight:
    Celtics > Cavs
    Magic > Cavs.
