Happy 50th Birthday, Magic

Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. turned 50 today, which all things considered, is remarkable: “Eighteen years ago, when Johnson made his bombshell announcement that he was HIV positive, few expected the Lakers star would see his 33rd birthday, much less his 50th. ‘His impact on increasing awareness that you can live with the disease has been phenomenal,’ says Cynthia Davis, director of HIV education and outreach at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science. ‘Even today, 30 years into the epidemic, there are people who aren’t educated and feel that it’s a death sentence.’ So robust and energetic that some have wrongly assumed him cured, Johnson has said he owes his well-being – and perhaps his life – to the multi-drug cocktail he takes every day.”

“…and the cure for HIV is…pure liquid cash.”

Congrats Magic! 50 years…. and still being an influence to young players. Terrence Williams of the Nets named Magic his favorite player of all time. Hopefully many years to come for Magic. Of all the criticism he receives for his lame commentary, the man tries to do a lot good in this world. All the best to him

Magic, thank you for the beautiful basketball. Thank you for standing up for a cause by genuinely accepting accountability and informing others. Happy Birthday.

Wonders if Jackson-Hewitt or Rent-A-Center will be running any “Happy Birthday Magic!” specials to rip off more low-income consumers.

Is it Ervin or Earvin? I always got that mixed up.

Great stuff for one of the best. One of the most influential guys equally on and off the court. Right up there for MJ and Russell for that

When Magic came out of retirement to play in that AllStar game, guys from other teams taking turns guarding him, him hitting that running 3 at the end, and him receiving that All Star award…truly inspiring and magical

Although I’m really disappointed in some of the business decisions he’s made over the past several years, Magic will always be my favorite player of all time. Considering my son shares his birthday today, I think God just wanted it that way.

great player. BUT he is in the business of ripping off poor people. that crap about the movie theaters and giving people jobs is bs. selling cokes and popcorn is not a career or even a real job, thats why teenagers work at theaters. albertbarr beat me to it, normal people have no chance to get those drugs magic takes every day. you know why? “they” dont want regular people to have it.

one of the true legends in life – happy 50th big fella

Amazing player, but that doesn’t give him a free pass for dicking over poor people. I’m constantly amazed how much you can get away with in the court of public opinion, provided you are good at sports and have a nice smile.

Yeah, RTO is just a big rip for low income peeps. And last time i checked, business is almost always selfish. Never heard The farmer complane about how astronomical jordan’s shoe prices were in the 90′s though, or kids gettin’ blasted to cop a fresh pair. Maybe that wasn’t happening out on the farm. It’s not often Magic gets his due on this site, or any others for that matter. I guess once is 1 too many for Ryan. Oh well, F*ck the LeBron c*ck sucking Motherf*cker.

Wow. 18 years ago, we all had visions of Magic turning into a sick, frail man after his announcement. Have you seen the size of him?? Incredible. They definitely need the wide angle lens when him and Charles Barkley are on the same set. Man!!

    Happy B-Day!!!
