Larry Brown to Replace Eddie Jordan in Philly?

The Philly Burbs says that Eddie Jordan’s disastrous stint in Philly is coming to an end, and the NY Post has a report that Larry Brown is headed back to Philly to man that sinking ship. Hmm: “Play ‘Misty’ for us; they closed the coffin on the I-Nod Center last night. Coincidentally, Larry Brown and his latest band of renown were in town. If memory — and a cheat sheet — serve, it was Brown who escorted New Jersey into the Brendan Byrne Arena in 1981. Coincidentally squared, Next Town Brown, I’m informed, has received approval from Bobcats owner Michael Jordan to return home, home on the range — Philadelphia — where his wife, school-age children and the antelopes still play, to re-take control of the 76ers from top to bottom. I presume permission isn’t activated until after the playoffs, but with Next Town, one can never be sure. In any case, hopefully Sixers president/GM Ed Stefanski, who began his visit 2½ years ago, isn’t last to find out his visa is about to be revoked. Head coach Eddie Jordan has known for some time he’ll be terminated immediately, if not faster, following the team’s last game tomorrow in Orlando.”

    AI is comin back lol.

  • Hussman25

I will go on the record now, if this happends A.I. will come back for one more season… He and Larry Hughes (as Hughes is making contributions to the Bobcats)… This could finally workout for all 3 individuals (Im just being an optimist) and this may be Larry’s last stop (in the NBA, now if the coaching position opened up @ UNC… ????)

I would love for him to come back. When Larry was with my Sixers, thats the only time they’ve won anything in my life. But..why would he want to leave the Bobcats?

  • Orlando Woolridge

Something I didn’t think I would ever read:

“why would he want to leave the Bobcats?”

    They’ve come a long way.

ah yes, the “Larry’s looking for a new job” piece; the go-to item for columnists looking to fill their word count since 1980.

AI is coming back for sure if this happens. Hope it does because an AI and Brown reunion no matter how it ends will be a good ending for AI and Im sure Brown will give AI that chance he has not got for the last year to prove people wrong.

Its whatever if we lose him. While i love what the guy has done for us, MJ has enough connection that replacing Larry will be easy. I still am not completely over the fact we hired him over Paul Silas, but i am glad he brought us to the the playoffs. If he leaves, it will be in Mary Poppins-esque fashion; on a magicaly umbrella in a cheerful way to go fix the next messy family. Good luck to you, Larry.

Pardeeps post @3.31 made me puke. ‘Reunion’, ‘good ending for AI’, ‘prove people wrong’. Seriously? Prove people wrong?

Yeah why not? Brown is the only coach who would know how to use this version of Allen Iverson while playing him 35 mpg and getting him about 16-18 shots a night… afterall that is all he wanted from him in Iverson’s young days when Brown said Iverson couldn’t play the right way. AI will want to comeback and Brown will be open to it because he was when rumors had AI going to Charlotte last year.

Pardeep, you realize he’ll be 36 years old, right? 35 MPG? 16-18 shots?! Not gonna happen. He’s done.

    LB ain’t going anywhere.

  • MikeC.

Maybe LB just likes working with chaos and cleaning up horrendous messes. He’s the guy that buys a run-down craphole house, fixes it up, but doesn’t live in it. He sells it so he can move on, buy another craphole and fix that up, etc. LB is a team-flipper. He fixes up craphole teams, and flips them to the next guy so he can go fix up another craphole team. Granted, he’s the best in the world at this, but after awhile you’d think the guy would want to stick around to see if he can win another ring. No matter what he says, I bet if UCLA, Kansas or UNC called, he’d be back in the college ranks in a heartbeat. He’ll be the guy in his 90′s, coaching a junior high team and destroying the confidence of all the 9 year-old PGs.

  • B

Yeah he definitely cleaned up the situation in NY.

BETCATS..I love you, you’re the ultimate fan. Larry guides the team to its first berth and leaves; that’s spells trouble for the Bobcat faithful. I thought Jordan just tugged on his Carolina connection with this coach and got lucky. Best of luck, BETCATS, I hope you guys keep improving, but Larry leaving is bad news.
