Nets Pass on Tyrus Thomas; Re-signs with Bobcats

The Star-Ledger‘s Dave D’Alessandro has some fiery words about Thomas, who wasn’t worth the investment for the Nets, despite their early courtship: “They backed out this morning – presumably – because it took this long to convince Avery Johnson that it would be a foolhardy investment: Face it, this kid had problems with Scott Skiles, he would have had some problems with A.J. The only reason a kinder, gentler, more nurturing Larry Brown got three good months out of him was by saying, “You’re three months away from the end of your NBA career – Chicago wasn’t going to pick up your option, they traded you here for a backup two-guard, and we’re not going to pick up your option either unless you shape up and grow up.” It worked. The Bobcats even picked up his option. And then, to keep the Nets at bay, they made him absurdly rich for a third-rate power forward. Nice investment there, MJ. We talked to someone in the Bulls organization and asked how this could have happened, and he replied, “First dates can fool you sometimes. But he’s still one of those guys who you’re glad when he leaves.”

smart move by the nets.. they are truely devoted to rebuilding a team able to compete in the nba (which is really not what they were last season).. thomas would jus cause trouble and screw up the chemistry of team.. good talent gone to waste because of immaturity

Never before have i seen a sports writer so bitter that another team is doing good while his is doing bad.Dave D’Alessandro=word wh0re who is bitter his team is a 12 win squad for the next 4-5 years. Thomas is a great player, just won a freaking community service award in Washington DC, and had MUTUAL conflicts with Scott Skiles. Their are two sides to every story, and everyone only wanted to here Skiles’s side. Thomas said he wants to be a Bobcat long term, and since Charlotte is a smaller market with less media scrutiny than Chicago he can do well here. Additionally, Thomas is maturing and Gerald Wallace is one of the best role models in the NBA for him to have. Haters gonna hate.

@BETCATS.. if i knew you were not an extreme bobcats fan your arguement would be alil more worth reading.. funny how fans have nothing but good to say bout thier fav teams and go to any ends to defend the players of that team

cantrell i dont see your point. If anything you should take what a true fan of a team says with more value than an outsider. I, and many others are emotionally invested in teams and know the complete ups and downs that a fair weathered/casual fellow would not know. Sure i will defend my guys, but when they are doing wrong i will acknowledge they are doing wrong. Since Tyrus has came to Charlotte he has done nothing wrong and shows no signs of ever doing wrong. He loves it here and fits in. The media is embracing him as opposed to harassing him. He didnt have a situation like that in Chicago.

Case in point: Grant Hill and Steve Nash are old.

he had all the more oppurtunity in chicago and if he would have handled it alil differently he would maybe still be in chicago.. which is alot better place to be than charlotte

I’m so glad to hear about this news. I was worried they were going to make a huge mistake and overpay him. I really like what the Nets are doing and where they’re headed. Good move. Sometimes it’s better to not sign any FA then to overpay…cough::grizzles::cough…

I’m a Bulls fan so I can attest to Thomas doing great work in the city, but he’s a nut job on the court. He had beef with skiles and then was forced to leave after his beef with vinny. He has the potential, but he’s not dedicated and he tries to play outside of his abilities. If someone can convince him that all he needs to do is rebound, block shots, and dunk the ball he’d be great.

    Bosh and James were traded.

The Raptors will get back the draft pick they gave the Heat in the Jermaine O’Neal transaction, Miami’s 2011 first-round pick, and a trade exception worth about $16 million.

The Cavaliers will receive two first-round picks and two second-round picks. They were also given $16 million for the trade exception.

    POST IT!
