Can the Pistons Make the Playoffs?

The team’s head coach, John Kuester, likes what he sees from the team this summer, and expresses some guarded optimism for the upcoming season. From the Free Press: “A lot of players have been in our gym, and that’s good news,’ coach John Kuester said. ‘hey realize how important they are, and their making adjustments to make themselves better is very important for us. I’ll tell you this, what Tracy has done so far is put in a tremendous amount of time with Arnie. I had a chance to watch him work out, and he was moving extremely well.’ McGrady could be a key offensive component if he’s half the player he was five years ago. ‘One of the things that we see (in McGrady) is a player that had high potential at one time, and he is somebody that is working religiously with Arnie, and that’s so important…’ Kuester said. “McGrady is somebody that can give us a high-risk, high-reward situation.’ The Pistons think they can compete for a sixth, seventh or eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. ‘We want to get back to the old way of doing things, where we’re competing,’ Kuester said. ‘We have a lot of players who are going to be competing in practice, and practice is going to dictate a lot of what is going to go on in the games.’”

I think T Mac can do it. I hope he can manage to prove all the doubters wrong this season.

Not so sure about them making the playoffs though. But that would be interesting too.

No. Orlando, Boston, Miami, Hawks, Bulls, Bucks and the Knicks are teams that I’m pretty sure will make the playoffs (i’m not sure about the Knicks, but if they get Melo), and that’s 7 already, Philly has a chance, if Nets can get Melo they have, or if any team can get Melo they’ll make the playoffs. Indiana is actually pretty good this year too, so I don’t think Pistons will make it.

It would be nice if they had an actual center besides Ben Wallace.

  • tavoris

@barnabusb-it’d be nice if they had an actual PG too.

I really hope McGrady kills it this year; just sucks that he’s stuck in Detroit. If McGrady can play remotely close to his peak expect them to move Hamilton by the trade deadline.

Nah they’ll finish a good 6 or 7 games outside playoff contention. Only guy I really like on this Pistons squad is McGrady, so I wish him all the best personally. Mainly that he plays out a full season.

haters! Seriously though, as a Pistons fan trying to be look at this objectively, I’m not putting it outside the realm of possiblility, but I think it’s unlikely unless they find a way to move at least 2 of thier wing players and pick up a semi-servicable big man. I guess it depends also on how ready Greg Monroe is to contribute as well as coach Q’s willingness to hurt somebody’s feelings and bench them if they aren’t playing well. I think by the end of the year Bynum will have earned the starting PG spot, it’s just up to Q to bench Stuckey. They actually have some decent talent on that roster, is just not at all balanced. Oh well, Go Pistons!

Yes, it is possible, but I’m bettin’ on them to be a lottery team. Cha ching.
