Erick Dampier: Waived

The Bobcats made it official today, meaning Miami and the rest of the League can begin to pounce. From the AP: “Unable to pull off a trade, the Bobcats have waived center Erick Dampier, which voids his $13 million contract and gets Charlotte under the luxury tax. Tuesday’s move comes a day after the Bobcats could have packaged Dampier’s contract in a multiplayer deal. But the Bobcats found no takers in a deal that would have also given Charlotte its needed financial relief.”

    BOOM. So it begins.

  • PapaBearATL

    Vet minimum?

  • http://google c_cantrell

hope he takes his talents to south beach.. he would be a very solid pick up for the heat

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Solid addition to most teams for the right price. There are not many true centers around.

  • http://www.manutd.com t-money

orlando, LA and boston are set at the 5. chicago could use him, atlanta and denver too in a back up role. only in miami does he get to start on a championship contender. if he does land in miami, how will people be able to say that they’re weak in the middle?

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

Chicago should pick him up and then go ahead and include Noah in the trade for Melo.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

He wont be signing anywhere for the vet minimum. He made that very clear. But for 3-5 million a year he could help a team that probably doesnt need it.

If Miami gets Dampier, they’re set.
Then they have a three center rotation, Dampier for defense and low post, Big Z to spread the floor Joel Anthony to run.
Throw in a rotation of Lebron/Chalmers at point, Wade/House at guard, Miller/Lebron at SF, and Bosh/Haslem as four and…. that’s a damn deep team!
    10 deep!
    Deep as the Lakers? Ahem…

Jukai has a point. The Heat could be friggin ridiculous. Well, more ridiculous than they will be anyways. If everything goes right.
There are so many conditionals for Miami this year.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@ Diesel – Dampier is 10 years older than Noah, so I still say we should keep him and forget about Carmelo. Unless they take Deng w/o Noah…which they won’t.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

The scary thing (or awesome thing if you’re a Heat fan) is that this is just year 1, and their 3 stars signed 6-year contracts. So over the years, I’d expect a lot of solid title-seeking veterans to wanna join the Heat.

  • http://dsjkfl.com Jukai

    Enigmatic: Kobe?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Jukai: Not sure I’m following you, my man. Do you mean the possibility of Kobe joining the Heat one year? If so….the rest of the league should just fold. Seriously. Bryant, Wade, James, Bosh? Cletus Spuckler could coach that team to multiple championships faster than The Seed could type BOO…well, you know…

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

This would be a huge pick up for the Heat. This would give them the size to compete with anybody.

  • I am legend

should be a good pickup for either the bulls or heat

  • http://dsjkfl.com Jukai

Enigmatic: I was making a joke, but yeah, if Kobe/Lebron/wade ever joined forces, I don’t care who I was. If I was f’ing Paul Pierce, I’d just say f it and go to Europe.

  • LA Huey

Y’all are real high on Damp. I don’t get it. You think his low post D is that good?

  • Holy Karron

if he want a ring mia or da go will be best fit for him

  • mdshui33

Being a Mavs fan and having watch Damp figuratively take massive dumps on the court over the last few years, I say I wouldn’t take him if I was getting paid to…well, okay if you were paying me I’d let him on the team. Otherwise, no thanks.

  • http://dgcoursereview.com Bro. D

Damp is a bum. He can’t jump or run or bend at the waist. The only role he can play with the Heat is as the doorman for the big three’s playhouse.

  • http://www.google.com The Big Fundamental

    Co-sign LA Huey

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Damp could help, sure, but is he needed?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Go to ATL, they need a center bad.

  • MikeC.

Has anyone been watching Mavs games the last couple seasons? Dampier has been calcifying before our eyes. Bro. D summed it up quite well. That whole “not being able to bend at the waist” thing is kinda scary in a sport that values mobility. The Heat seem built to be more of a running team (not 7 seconds or less running, but still running). Dampier doesn’t really fit since he can’t move, much less run.

  • Ronald

@LA Huey: Yeah, his low post defense is that good. During the Mavs/Spurs series he was the only consistent defender against TD. I understood why Carlisle didn’t want to play him too much (offensively he didn’t do anything). And, there were times where he played good defense despite being in foul trouble. He doesn’t have great hands, but he is a good low post defender that can do a few putbacks and get a few boards.

ATL is my pick for best situation. Good move by Charlotte, they need to drop their remaining old timers. Stephen Jackson you’re outta here. Embracing youth; Just Do It.

  • http://www.dontevenreply.com total scrotal implosion

Hes good enough to prevent dwight from getting easy looks, thats all they need

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Jamal can manhandle Dwight. He’d frustrate the hell out of him. I’m not convinced Damp is such a great pickup for the Heat.

  • Celtics fan

Damn slam fanboys…Ya’ll all know DAMP has been garbage since the last year he played at golden state when he put up career numbers. Jason Kidd made things a little easier for him,but he was still a slug…Tim Thomas retired today I think DAMP should really think about the same.

  • dsleepy

i dont understand all the ppl saying Damp is such a valuable piece. Mavs fans hated the guy b/c he couldn’t get boards and couldn’t guard the paint. how is he now, all of a sudden, miami’s missing piece?

  • http://dez@nba.com dez

damp should sign with miami just to avoid dwade and bron from dunking all over him on national television. unless they start televising the practices…

  • http://aol.com Run’N'Gun219

Eric”stone hands”dampier is not the answer for anybodys team. GTFOH

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

If Ericka comes down here to join our team I think I am going to scream. God, we’ll be able to go shopping all the time during the season… You know, I better contain myself, I don’t want to get my hopes up only to be dissapointed and fall off the cat walk. -RuPaul

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    *catwalk; **disappointed smh

  • http://yahoo ddub
