Michael Beasley: Lakers [and Timberwolves] the ‘Teams to Beat’

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

When the Miami Heat shipped Michael Beasley off to the NBA’s version of Siberia this summer, a lot of people saw it as some sort of death knell for the young forward. Beasley, however, looks at it in a positive light.

B-Easy says he likes the new surroundings, and tells the Minnesota Timberwolves’ official website that his team will not lay down for anyone next season. In fact, they and the Lakers are both contenders.

You try and figure these quotes out
, because I certainly cannot:

Michael Beasley: “I think that speaks to Pat Riley, you know exactly who he is. Pat Riley is a winner, winner, winner, that’s pretty much all it is. They got three of the best guys in the NBA, they got the best role players in the NBA, you know they are trying to win championships and that’s what Pat Riley is all about. It is unfortunate they had to get rid of me but like I said, Pat Riley wins at any cost and that’s exactly what he did.”

Jonah Ballow: “Are they the team to beat? I mean, there is a team in LA with a couple of trophies but are they the team to beat?”

Michael Beasley: “Honestly, and I know a lot of people are not going to like that fact that I’m going to say this but I think we are the team to beat. You know, that’s just me and my ego speaking. I think the Lakers are the defending champs two years in a row, I think the Lakers still hold that title. It’s nice to see somebody try to fight back but as of now, the Lakers are still the team to beat.”

Despite the confidence and ego, Michael Beasley and his new GM, David Kahn, aren’t going to win any NBA titles together in Minnesota. However, they are unbeatable in one very important category: unintentional comedy.

No Beas, you got it wrong, the Wolves are the team are the team that WILL BE BEAT.

Damn, that’s not a good look. I mean he has been an average player in the league since he arrived and he has the stones to make a statement like this? This is just going to blow up in his face big time.

AHA can someone please make another play-on-words joke about what he “meant to say” AHAAA the genius of it all. really. dane cook funny.

i say good for him, how quickly you all forget how dope he was in college and the skill set he possesses. how about you give him the benefit of the doubt that they’re not the comments of a hallucinating pot head, but possibly the words of a leader.
again, good for him, i hope this is the rebirth. forum warriors, effin’ haters.

Let’s do this minny it’s time for the fans in minnesota to have something to root for again. I’m hoping beasley can deliver. But I guess that he’s gonna play the 3 with brewer at the two and flynn at the one with darko as the starting c and k love as the 4 man. That’s a decent lineup with a lot of height except for lil johny. I’m definetly expecting some great storylines out of minnesota this year

Confidence is the key. And I bet he’s gonna win more games and cash more money than us so of course the hate’s gonna roll in.

Timberwolves are the team to beat on NBA 2K11, I like his confidence, but they have a long road up hill to being successful challenging the Lakers. BOOK IT!!

People gotta give this guy a break!
Hes young. averages of 15-6, which aren’t pathetic. Decent numbers.
More is expected of him. what if Minnesota acts as base for him to develop his game and become the next big thing, i mean the 26-10 guy!
Hes got skills and potential to be better than Melo or Durant. All he needs to do is keep his Head in place and concentrate on his job. Maturity will come on its own!
Who would like to kiss millions of dollars goodbye?
    B-EASY wont!
Look for him to start and just become the primary option!
Maybe after his Rookie deal gets over he can sign somewhere else!

I think Micheal has stop smoking weed and is now literally smoking trees. Excess smoke inhalation is the only way i can explain anybody thinking the Timberwolves are the team to beat.

Go Beas, kill ‘em this season.

  • BK Chris

This isn’t a story, slow news day I suppose. In all my years watching professional sports, I have yet to hear a player say “Honestly we have a snowball’s chance in hell of seriously competeing this year”, especially before training camp starts. In this overly sensitive world we live in,these athlethes are coached on how to conduct themselves while dealing with the media. Thats why most athletes ( not named Ron Artest) sound so mechanical during post game interviews. I honestly would be more shocked if he said “Kahn already told u what the deal is, I’m just here to get my check”

  • Johnboy

B-ease even if you added the number of wins you’ll get in the next two years, you still won’t get to 50. PEACE playoff contendaa

  • hammer

There is a diff between saying we have high hopes 4 the season and saying we the team 2 beat. And a diff between being confidant, and just sounding like a loony. Cuz,REALISTICALLY speaking, there r a # of teams that can b considered the team 2 beat. I know it and EVERY1 here knows it. And if we all know it,then beas should b smart enuff 2 know it as well

  • Yesse

Looks like he has been doing that drinking and those drugs again..

  • jdstorm

For All the Crap everyone is giving Beasly about this. Anybody with a bit of pride is going to say that they are out to win.

Man i wish MB had gone to pheonix in the amare trade exception. would have been a good fit

  • hammer

@ jd. Yeah. Out 2 win. Agreed. But not as beas said team 2 beat. 2 very diff thngs. Don’t get it twisted

  • http://twitter.com/max_in_missouri Max in Missouri

It should be noted that Beasley also said that his goal was to not only win ROY, but also MVP during his rookie campaign.

I guess this pretty much proves he’s still tokin’ up, too

  • Daio

… Well. I think Beasley has great potential, especially after coming out of Dwyane Wade’s very big shadow. The thing is, he doesn’t feel the game. Dude has like this blank expression whenever I watched him play in Miami. Not the cool of D-Wade, or the rockslide intensity of Lebron, just… it’s blank.

    Iúnno if that’s a good thing. :P

  • wottywo

I think Beasley might be talking in his sleep, I mean that sounds a like a happy dream. But what’s going to happen when he wakes up and lives the nightmare?

  • http://Slam Ruach Tang

maybe in about five years mike beasley!!

  • Jeremiah

Kahn already showing Beasley the ropes.
