Michael Beasley: Lakers [and Timberwolves] the ‘Teams to Beat’

When the Miami Heat shipped Michael Beasley off to the NBA’s version of Siberia this summer, a lot of people saw it as some sort of death knell for the young forward. Beasley, however, looks at it in a positive light.

B-Easy says he likes the new surroundings, and tells the Minnesota Timberwolves’ official website that his team will not lay down for anyone next season. In fact, they and the Lakers are both contenders.

You try and figure these quotes out, because I certainly cannot:

Michael Beasley: “I think that speaks to Pat Riley, you know exactly who he is. Pat Riley is a winner, winner, winner, that’s pretty much all it is. They got three of the best guys in the NBA, they got the best role players in the NBA, you know they are trying to win championships and that’s what Pat Riley is all about. It is unfortunate they had to get rid of me but like I said, Pat Riley wins at any cost and that’s exactly what he did.”

Jonah Ballow: “Are they the team to beat? I mean, there is a team in LA with a couple of trophies but are they the team to beat?”

Michael Beasley: “Honestly, and I know a lot of people are not going to like that fact that I’m going to say this but I think we are the team to beat. You know, that’s just me and my ego speaking. I think the Lakers are the defending champs two years in a row, I think the Lakers still hold that title. It’s nice to see somebody try to fight back but as of now, the Lakers are still the team to beat.”

Despite the confidence and ego, Michael Beasley and his new GM, David Kahn, aren’t going to win any NBA titles together in Minnesota. However, they are unbeatable in one very important category: unintentional comedy.

    Good for him, maybe he is trying to motivate himself. After watching Kevin Love in the World Championships they do have a decent frontline, one that could compete against teams in the West. Their problem will come in the squad being able to gel and get decent guard play. Once J. Flynn comes back though they will have decent guard play. If Darko can finally deliver on his potential (Stop laughing) they have an um, okay squad… Well alright, I can justify this by saying have to seen Gunnin For The Number 1 Spot? K Love and M Beas had pretty good chemistry in the movie and I really do think this will reenergize Beas. At least I hope it will.

    I really think mike is gonna flurish(as much as someone can flurish on a bad team) with the timberwolves. I mean back when Mike was a Jr. and Kevin Durant was a Sr. in highschool, alot of people in the DMV area thought Mike would turn out a better player

    Maybe the Timberwolves should have let Beasley write the full page ad that they took out in the paper that said they would not contend. This team does have the potential to win on any given night especially with how good Kevin Love is. But a title? No banners will be hung in the Target Center this year.

    Looking at their roster they dont look half bad.. Id like to see some improvment from Corey Brewer this year.. Whose gonna start at the 3? Brewer, Webster, or Beasley (6-10).. I hope they dont move Love to center..

    First thing I thought of when I heard he was traded to the Timberwolves was back when they had an NBA draft special before he got drafted. Dude was on the phone with one of his boys talking about where he might end up, and he pretty much trashed Minnesota and said anywhere but there. I guess this is poetic justice.

    It’s like when Slam asked Amar’e a few years ago how many games he thought the Suns would win that year. Amar’e came back and said, if you’re a professional basketball player, you have to say 82-0. What else would you say? Are you going to look at your calendar and say, “Okay, we’re gonna lose that game, and this one, and that one.” That’s what a true competitor does. Whether or not it’s realistic, you say stuff like “We’re the team to beat” and “Kevin Love, Darko, and I are going to be one of the best frontcourts in the league” and “Ricky Rubio, that kid is definitely coming over soon.”
