Report: Nuggets Reject Knicks’ Offer for Carmelo

by Ryne Nelson

With the Nets backing out of the Melo sweepstakes, common sentiment around the League is that Anthony will sign with the Knicks.

But Carmelo may have to play out the rest of the season in Denver before he can join the Knicks, or any other squad.

The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks’ most recent offer — Wilson Chandler, Landry Fields, a first-round pick (for Anthony Randolph) and Eddy Curry‘s expiring contract — is “problematic.”

A deal with the Nuggets appears to be, according to one source familiar with the situation, “problematic.” But Knicks president Donnie Walsh still has a backup plan — hoping Carmelo Anthony becomes a free agent, and the two teams working on a sign-and-trade during the summer.

A 1050 ESPN New York report stated the Knicks have been rejected by Denver on an offer this week of Wilson Chandler, rookie Landry Fields and a first-round pick the Knicks presumably can obtain for Anthony Randolph. If the report has merit, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract would have been included in the package.

‘Donnie doesn’t want to give up five pieces in this,’ one source said.

Whether or not Melo is traded before the February 24 deadline, sources close to Carmelo Anthony tell Chris Broussard that “many teams that have been willing to trade for Anthony as a rental are now reconsidering.”

The Rockets are suitors, and Melo’s camp likes the Bulls, but Carmelo’s left no indication that he’d want to sign an extension with any team but the Knicks.

Carmelo should join the Hawks, We are willing to trade Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Jordan Crawford and 1st round draft picks for Carmelo. YEAH SON Beat that NEW YORK

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

WHY would they want to get rid of Wilson Chandler now…?

  • Lucas

Who am I kidding, Hawks got no chance, Good luck NEW YORK.

  • Overtime

Why would any team actually want Carmelo? What are u getting? A sulky, pouty, essentially one dimensional player who shows little loyalty?
This thing is out of hand, the Knicks wouldnt get much better, I wish teams would stop acting as though this is NBA live.

I 2nd Overtime: [kudos on the video game reference also].
Any team getting Carmelo will not be in a position to market themselves to their fanbase – ‘Hey we’re for real, we got ‘Melo!..for 40+ games!’ – Particularly because he’s not hanging around if he’s oh his way to the Big Apple. It must be in Carmelo’s contract that he gets a say as to where he goes in the event of being traded. I think the Nuggets are going to find themselves in a d@mned if you do d@mned if you don’t scenario by season ends. Carmelo and his unrestricted free agency little self are out of there…

lest we forget that brawl that NYK and Denver had a while back where melo got in a sucker punch on either nate or mardy collings (if i remember correctly) and all the NY media was basically calling him a “B*tch”, “punk” and “p@ssy” Now, they’re on his d*ck harder then a porn star on charlie sheen.

CarMeLo is gon shock everybody by becoming a free agent & sign with the La. Lakers this summer

  • yes.we.did.

Why are we still talking about this? All this means is that Denver isn’t a visual learner, and didn’t see what happened to the Cavs. If they want to suck again, let them! Just stop giving Melo attention!

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I don’t blame em’. Is getting Anthony really worth losing Fields and Chandler? At this point its in Anthony’s and whatever team he goes to’s best interest to wait until the offseason, otherwise they’ll be losing 2-3 of their better players..

I’m so sick of these Melo rumours, but what I’m more sick of is people blaming Melo. All he has done is told the nuggets that he’s not going to re-sign with them. It’s in their best interest to trade him. He’s a free agent at the end of this year, so whichever team gets him will only have him for this season, unless he re-ups with them. So its not in another team’s interests to rent him if he’s gonna leave. Therefore the nuggets can only get value if a team feels comfortable that Melo will sign the extension with them. He has merely said that he would sign with the Knicks, which helps the nuggets find a trade partner. He has not demanded a trade. He is not obliged in any way to be loyal if he plays out his contract and is a FREE agent.

Melo is an allstar, superstar is debatable. Weather you like him or not he is arguably one of the best scorer in the league right now. Any team would love to have him simply because of his firepower. Either way it is a losing situation for Denver, trade or not! Moving to New York wouldn’t make his career more relevant than what he already have with Denver.Couple more years the west could be his if Denver surround him the right team mates and maybe work on his defense.

  • flipnoyce

only if he stays with Denver! Unfortunately I don’t believe he will!

  • JTWilliams

Melo is an idiot! Nuggets fans have every right to boo him out of the stadium! I hope the Knicks only offer him a $5 mil deal next summer. Why pay him any more? The guy basically refuses to play for anyone else- let him rot in Denver with fans booing every time he touches the ball.

maybe melo might take the mid level and join the heat. this shiz has just go completely out of hand.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Melo should sign with the Sydney Kings. We can offer Trey Gilder and Ben Knight in a trade, though Julian Kazzouh is regarded as ‘untouchable’. BELIEVE THAT!

  • hoodsnake

If he becomes a free agent the Lakers will snatch him and be a zillion dollars over the cap

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

He’s just gonna become a FA. Fu*k all the BS going on right now. Stick a fork in it.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

Commenter Cheryl has said that Anthony should play out the season and see what happens.
    I agree.

32 days left until the 2011 trade deadline…TICK TICK TICK!

All the Knicks have to do is wait until the summer, sign him to free agency. Eddie Curry’s contract expires. You get to keep all your young players.Make Gallo come off the Bench behind Melo or trade him and Eddie Curry’s contract to get a decent center and/or a backup point guard and you’re set.

  • tavoris

The game isn’t physical enough, but the refs are ridiculously inconsistent. EG attacks the bucket as hard as any player in the L right now. Every player is told that the way to get to the line is to attack the bucket. Realistically, he should expect to get calls.

  • ripslam

This is like the Amar’e drama that was going on for the past two seasons. Every year some prima donna decides his team isn’t good enough for him, and the media makes an entire soap opera out of it. It’s disgusting.

At least LeBron was willing to take a dip in salary to go to Miami (yes, I know – no state tax etc). This doughy faced fool Carmelo wants to pick his destination and grab a max contract. And let’s be honest, his presence on an NBA team is no guarantee of anything except some pouting and a pile of ugly Jordan kicks in the locker room.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I’ve asked it before, I’ll ask it again- Knicks fans forgive Anthony for his sucker punch on Mardy Collins, sure Collins isn’t anybody, but if a rival player came into OUR building and sucker-punched one of our guys, he would be booed the rest of his career everytime he stepped foot into our arena..

  • Omar

Do the Nuggets think they are going to get a better offer than this from anyone? I doubt it, Knicks should take Chandler out of the next offer.

  • jarrett

this is a fair deal if u ask me, but drop curry

  • clay

Melo to the Clippers??? The Clippers got the cap space, since they never got nobody last summer. Melo + Blake Grizzley = RING

  • morrow

Melo always travels, period. He always does the feet shuffle when he catches the ball, he moves both feet before dribbling the ball once. The refs never catch it and it drives me mad, annoyingly much of the espn highlights actually show this much of the time.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I hear from time to time that this NBA thing is a “business”…ifso facto (latin) Denver will/should be able to move him where ever they please to whom ever offers something appropiate to their expectations in return…particularly in light of the all too plausible notion that Carmelo may already have it in mind that he is already going to be elsewhere and is just keeping it under wraps (the LeBron + Bosh equation)?
Trade him Denver. Trade him for whomever it is you think is acceptable to your own needs. Carmelo Anthony and Ty Lawson for Danny Granger and Darren Collison is my suggestion.

  • http://www.slamonline.com THE REAL RIGGS

only place other than the knicks i would like melo with is the clippers. So the knicks should just wait, f*ck Denver and their knitpickying a*ses. The nets were going to give away their whole squad and they said no, wth is that? and screw everyone who thinks its carmelo’s fault.

  • http://vandelay-industries.org Art Vandelay

Chandler AND Fields? Oh please Knicks, don’t screw it up again…

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Teams were reluctant to sign Amare or trade for him last year. I bet those same teams regret that now. I think the Carmelo situation will be the same way. The guy is a winner and has been winning his entire life. Forget the stats and the nonsense about him being one dimensional bc if you get the guy you are gonna win games PERIOD.

  • http://Slamonline.com BK Chris

    He sucker punched Jared Jeffries!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Anon E Mouse

@ The Real riggs – totally agree with your last sentance. too many STOOPID (yep, STOOPID) comments re Carmelo being disloyal, wanting to pick and choose his destination, only wanting to sign for a max contract etc. The man is playing ball and if/when the season is over, if he remains in Denver he can freely walk out the door to wherever he wants. If Denver trade him, he can still do the same. that is the way it works. ask you STOOPID selves a question if your family were living in New York and you could be traded to ANY team lets say in this case the raptors, would yo be happy? nope i’d let the coach know immediately that I’ll ball till I fall but once the season is out, so am I. Done.
