Kevin Love Thinks He Was Snubbed

Much of the basketball universe howled in disbelief and anger when Kevin Love was omitted from the All-Star reserves, and Love joined in the chorus. The Star Tribune reports: “I truly and firmly believe in my heart that, solely on play alone, I should have been in there,’ [Love] said. Coaches considered other factors — namely winning — when they cast their ballots for players in their own conferences, and this year Western Conference coaches chose, among others, San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol and Los Angeles Clippers rookie Blake Griffin … His 15.5 rebounding average leads the NBA by nearly two boards a game. Orlando’s Dwight Howard is next at 13.6 a game. But it was one other number that influenced the coaches’ vote more than any other: 11, which is how many times the Wolves have won. ‘When it comes down to it, the 11 with the 36 or 37 behind it, that kind of killed me,’ Love said. ‘We know why I didn’t make it … I know winning plays a big factor. I didn’t want to be too upset. I’m not too bitter about it.’ Now he waits for NBA Commissioner David Stern to decide who will replace injured Houston center Yao Ming, who was voted the West’s starting center by fans. Love’s last chance to play in the All-Star Game on Feb. 20 in L.A. depends upon Stern’s decision. The NBA said Thursday there’s no definitive timetable for Stern to make that decision. ‘We’ll just have to wait and see,’ Love said of Stern, who must also consider Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge and the Lakers’ Lamar Odom, among others. ‘No matter how you get in, it doesn’t matter. If I make it that way, I still feel like I’m very deserving.’”

Surprise……………………………….I hope Steve Nash is the replacement.

  • RunNGun

If it turns out to be Steve Nash, I wouldn’t be surprised. Either Aldridge or Ellis…

  • KB8toSG8

LO deserves it solely for putting up the same stats without starting and playing for fewer minutes. Also…..the winning thing :\

I’m still not sure how much K-Love (or Beasley for that matter) affect the outcome of basketball games. 11 wins, man.

  • burnt_chicken

this is the best defence Love has offered all season.

That darn blake griffin and his winning Clippers.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I was going to say, Steve Nash will win you more games then Love, but I couldn’t be bothered to check the Estimated Wins Added (which, unbeknownst to some people, gives you an fairly accurate answer).
Turns out Kev Love is a lot higher up than Nash in that stat.

Well, yeah, winning is an important factor in professional sports…

He HAS to be the replacement for Yao.

    Stern will choose Love. Period.

I think Aldridge is a better player than Love. And is there really a debate on who’s better between Love and Griffin?

  • Kristin

Aldridge is much more deserving of the final spot than Love. Aldridge makes his team better and has led the charge for the injury plagued Blazers all year. If Love was THAT good and not just a stat padder, his team would have won more than 11 games. True all stars make the players around them better.

Love is such a whiner. Remember how he whined cause he got no love for rookie of the year? Damn.

  • Kihwan

KLove is putting up numbers that haven’t been seen for a long time. When’s the last time someone averaged 20+ ppg & 15 rpg in a season? Yeah, his team sucks, but you can’t dispute the numbers. Opposing teams game plan for him and he still puts up huge numbers. Dude is averaging 15+ rebounds AND shooting over 43% from 3pt land!! Has this EVER happened in the NBA?

  • Red Star

If Blake The Beast Griffin is in the All Star game then K Love has to be too!

  • David sparks

Aldridge, odom. No mention of zbo who just shut love down 2 nights ago, on a winning team in the hunt, player of theweek twice in Jan. And nobody mentions him in the convo. Getting sick of it.

  • T-Money

Who game plans for KLobe?! Let’s keep him off the boards is a plan?

I agree homey. It’s not like his numbers are making that team better. They’re the same team they were last year. His numbers went up, but their wins stayed the same.

He’d be a 12/10 guy on most squads. Anyone reading this article could get 20 and 15 playing next to Anthony Tolliver, Darko and Koufous.

On one hand, it’s just absurd that Love wasn’t chosen. On the other hand, if he has a beef about it, he can answer his critics on the court by leading his team to wins.

  • 1982

If you want to compare teams in poor markets, the best way to look at it is how KG made his first AS Game when the Wolves were 40-42. Unless KLove pulls down 30 more wins with his RPG, I don’t think anyone will still be thinking about him getting snubbed at the end of the year.

Blake Griffin is a highlight reel, and the NBA wants ratings. Can’t argue that KLove as a player doesn’t deserve recognition, but it’s less likely people will tune in to see him “fundamental” it up. That’s just the way the league works…it’s driven by money and ratings.

It’s Love. Love will be in Seattle for the Pro Bowl game.

  • Toronto

How is Bosh a friggin all star…

  • youngmuggsy

I know Tim Duncan’s a legend and future HOFer but he doesn’t deserve to be an allstar averaging 14 and 9.

I’m sorry, but Aldridge is not better than Love and it’s debatable if Blake is better than Love. Aldridge is weak on the boards every other game, and Blake plays SUBPAR defense but for some reason, it’s alright cause he’s in sports center.
If Love isn’t selected by David Stern, I do have a big problem.

  • Crustified-Jalepino

The nba NEEDS The Griffster in the All-Star Game. Feel Me ?!

Alright folks, sure Kevin love has good stats, but when can you say a player with these stats is continually losing. Sure he scores points, but do they matter, do his boards matter? When Rodman, was pulling down 30 boards they won, why because he was always doing the intangibles, blocking shots, playing D-fense. The things winners do, KLove needs to play defense score when it matters and shut his man down, then he will be an all star.

  • Kihwan

If we’re going to talk about winning, then we need to look at the Clippers befor Baron Davis came back from his injury. Blake was putting up good numbers while BDiddy was injured and the Clippers had possibly the worst record in the L. When BDiddy came back, that’s when the Clippers started rolling. Plus, Love isn’t just putting up good numbers on a bad team. He’s putting up MONSTER, rarely-seen-in-NBA-history numbers. If putting up huge numbers on a bad team is so easy, how come Bosh wasn’t pulling down 15+ boards when he was on a crappy Toronto team? How come none of the Cleveland players are putting up good numbers? You would think being on such a terrible team, SOMEONE would be having a pretty good season statistically.

  • Kihwan

@keybrite, uh, Rodman also played with Jordan and Pippen, who were pretty decent players in their day.

  • youngmuggsy

@keybrite – Why use the hyphenated ‘D-fense’? It has the same amount of characters if you just spell it correctly.
