Report: Lakers, Nuggets Discussing Carmelo Anthony Deal

The talks, according to ESPN‘s sources, are in their infancy. But they’ve reportedly begun to take place: “The Lakers’ package would be built around center Andrew Bynum. Denver has no interest in Ron Artest and isn’t particularly interested in Lamar Odom either, sources said. A straight-up deal of Bynum for Anthony works financially, but there could be other players involved since Denver would look to shed more salary if possible. Sources described the talks as in their infancy, and a three-way deal between the Knicks, Nuggets and Wolves is very much alive.”

For once I agree with Eboy…Kobe and Melo will be a better version of Iverson and Melo…Lakers need rebounding and interior defense, which Bynum provides (when he’s healthy)…not another scoring machine.

Its gunna hurt me tremendously to have to root for The Lakers…. but this trade is good for both parties, great for melo

Atlanta, LA, Denver. Atlanta gets Chauncey Billups and Ron Artest. Lakers get Carmelo Anthony and Mike Bibby. Denver gets Andrew Bynum, Steve Blake and the expiring contract of Jamaal Crawford.

as exciting as a move that would be, it would be a mistake, for the many reasons already listed, but i’ll add one more: if you are the Lakers, your window is NOW. why would you hurt your shot at the title NOW for a possible shot at the title LATER? you already have a championship squad, and this is not a video game. chemistry is so important, and removing 1 or 2 of your true pieces just to add a player who will (as stated already) need time to acclimate and learn the system and build new chemistry will really hurt your hopes of three-peating. also, boston reloaded their frontcourt with the o’neals, and perk is coming back. with no bynum LA gets absolutely demolished on the boards. melo and gasol may be decent rebounders, but the combination of boston’s big men is much, much, much, much better. if they bring in melo, but lose bynum, celtics in 5. if they lose bynum AND odom, but get back melo and nene (as previously stated above), celtics in 4. LO is ballin out of his mind this year, lakers cannot and must not give him up.

Shed salary for who? They are not gonna attract any premier free agents. They have Lawson so it would be good to add a big with him that can give u 18+ and 10+ boards.

  • toinefan88

i think the nugs wood get there best deal off the quakers. they have more guns

you guys saying this would be bad are reading too much into it. i wish the lakers could get JR too

  • Clos1881

Carmelo and Kobe are good friends I’m sure they have talked and I wouldnt be surprised if melo told Kobe he would sign an extension in L.A. He lives their in the offseason and the trade makes sense for both teams.

Anyone think Denver is just putting this out there to make the Knicks come back with a better offer than what they initially did? I don’t think Melo going to LA is a legitimate possibility, in my mind. Melo is an alpha dog player, so was AI. We saw how that worked. The reason why Miami works(now) is because guys have settled into their roles. Lebron is not an alpha, Wade is on that team. And Bosh is smiling, looking out the school bus window enjoying the ride.

@Joey E. Shannon Brown and JR Smith are essentially the same guy. Known for dunks but primary role on team is to chuck 3′s. lol

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Highly doubt this even results in an offer

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

RealGM says this rumor has already been shot down.

  • Joe

Melo now, CP3 and Dwight summer ’12 = Next laker dynasty! No need to hate, who doesn’t want a part of the tradition, celebrity scene, big money, and rings that come with being a laker? This will be the really big 3. BTW hopefully mamba retires inside three years so he can retire a laker.

  • Stepfan
  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    Yawn…

  • Joe

BTW all the window is now type posters, this is the Lakers, Dr. Buss has always been ready and willing to break up a very good team to start building another great one. That’s why the lakers never turn into the knicks or celtics and disappear for decades. He has as many rings as he can wear already.

  • Joe

“What’s out there is inaccurate,” is hardly the strongest denial I’ve heard issued to keep players from getting b*tt hurt during talks. An offer hasn’t even been done yet so you have to protect your teams collective ego. Bynum in particular is on shaky ground with the lakers from all the criticism stemming from his handling of offseason surgery (after he went to the world cup), and don’t forget the infamous Kobe “ship his a** out” video. But really, much like Greg Oden, he does need to go for his own sake and the teams.

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

@niQ. JR actually hits some 3′s unlike Shannon. Shannon started the season great, since then, ugh

  • bakers’-dozen

This seems to have Stern’s hands all over it. He loves LA and wants a big 3 vs big 3 finals vs Miami…
However, I don’t see it happening. Sure getting Bynum would allow Nene to play PF (his natural position), and would give Denver a lot of depth in the post. However, it does NOT offer Denver the cap flexibility and youth it is seeking in a Melo trade. Bynum’s only good for 35 games a year anyway.

  • 2KInsider

I used to get annoyed at all of these Carmello talks. Not any more!

  • Towelie

Artest needs to away…away very far from Lalaland.

  • sam

If you guys are going to waste your time yapping about sh*t that won’t happen, it might as well involve unicorns and dragons.

  • wan lafon

who ever says bynum is better melo. get off that dope! melo is a top 10 player and bynum starting center…. on the bench.

  • wan lafon

can wait to hear what charles barkley says? IF this happens, will melo be viewed the same as lebron? going to another superstar team or its cool now?

  • fruizm

jr and shannon are not the same player….shannon wishes….

  • Ryan

Noooo way! Bynum is too vital to the Lakers to trade him for Melo. Not saying Bynum is a better player then Melo but he is the defensive anchor of the team and a real offensive threat in the paint. Lakers don’t even need to make a move.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Sam FTW

  • http://remrats.com remrats

how bout bynum, barnes, blake and a pick for melo and chauncy? Nuggs get young w bynum and barnes, a good backup for ty lawson. Have artest come off the bench, which will hopefully motivate him to be more of an instant game changer.

  • OnEHigHJeDi

Has anyone seen a Laker game lately? Kobe and the lakers need help scoring. When the Lakers are trailing or their offense is struggling it falls to Kobe to pick up the slack. Then everyone starts Kobe watching. Once in a while Gasol gets involved. Having Melo on the team gives other options on O and takes the wear and tear off Kobe, who is still top 5 but needs all the help he can get to maintain for maybe 2-3 more years. Melo needs to play D, but that will come when he learns the system, plus he’ll be remotivated. Sub in Artest when you need stops for now. Gasol played well against D12 two years ago. He’ll be ok at center.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

There is absolutely no way that this happens…right?

  • http://slamonline.com The Ambassador

What Lakers need to do is get a therapist that can help Artest be a better player. The Lakers dont need Melo because the Lakers already have Kobe to score what the Lakers need to do is trade Brown,Walton,or Blake none of them has stepped up coming from the bench.

  • Cool Dude

Do not even consider this deal unless nene is included.

  • http://jayemmbee23.tumblr.com Clutch Performer

No I dont want another of my favorite players teaming up with players I hate,
    First Shaq and Nash (hate)
    then Wade and Lebron(hate)
    Now Melo and Kobe (hate)
Great… all this means if it were to happen more bangwagon jumpers to LA as if they werent annoying as it is

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

I think this is a great idea. We can then fold the Nuggets up and put them in the closet and not have to think about them anymore.

  • robb

two scorers who want to shoot the ball almost every possession. Bad idea. Wait till Dwight becomes a free agent.

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

Melo for Bynum straight up causes too many odd problems, and involves too many “extra pieces for next year” excuses.
Melo and Nene for Bynum and Odom (and Ratliff for salary)…. now THAT’S a trade that makes a lot of sense.
    Wont happen though.

  • Omar

    Celtics > Lakers w/Melo > Heat

  • wilz

LOLLLL EBOY called Bynum a defensive anchor!!! way to lose credibility

  • robz

if dat hapens lakers dynasty all d way baby…if kobe has 2-4 more years melo can step up and continue lakers legacy

  • Tweaks

    I TOLD YOU SO !. :) .

  • don123

if melo goes to lA, then i’ll be one less melo fan.

  • Omar

Yeah, I missed the day Bynum became a defensive anchor. Dwight Howard, he isn’t.
