Snoop’s Best Lakers References

A collection of The Doggfather’s purple and yellow-inspired raps.

Snoop Dogg’s 18-year solo career reached a new milestone today, when the California MC’s 11th solo album Doggumentary hit stores this morning. A lifelong Lakers fan, Snoop has been repping the purple and yellow in his lyrics for as long as he’s been making music. (He also has an adidas line of products—including a pair of kicks and a track top—influenced by his fandom.) In celebration of Snoop’s new LP, here’s a look back at the best of those Lakers-inspired raps (without using more than one from the same song), and you can go ahead and pick up Doggumentary from Amazon here.

i hope those sound better within the songs, ’cause i don’t think there’s one of them that seems like an impressive lyric when it’s written out. i guess snoop was high tho.

That is correct. The first Laker reference I remember is from Doggfather: “I like the Lakers now ’cause now they got Shaq O’Neal”

The ‘Hoop Dreams’ song is my favourite rap/basketball song ever.
“When I grow up on wanted to be a point guard playing on NBC
With Herb and Suge or Pistol Pete or World B. Free givin dap to me”

I hate quite a bit of the Lakers’ celebrity “fans” but Snoop is a real fan. Him and Goldstein are always dressed so tacky, you can’t question their fandom.
