Tracy McGrady Remains in Kuester’s Doghouse

John Kuester has “cleaned the slate” and is sticking with players who practice and play with energy and intensity: “McGrady has not played in four consecutive games for the Pistons. He was dressed and available Feb. 25 against Philadelphia, but Kuester went with the six players who took part in the morning shootaround that day in that game. McGrady was not at The Palace on Saturday due to an illness, and has been the only healthy Pistons player who did not play in each of the two games since. Kuester was asked Friday following practice why McGrady has not been playing. ‘The energy that the guys had in that Utah game, I wanted to stay with them and some of the other guys that had good practices during that time,’ Kuester said. ‘We cleaned the slate. We’re trying to say, ‘Hey, listen, bring it every day.’”

everytime i read something about mcgrady i just wish more and more that he could have signed with the bulls instead of being stuck with a has-been team that totally blows

    Free T-Mac!

Is this coach talkin’ about practice?

  • http://nba.com gp23

Damn !! what happened to mcgrady? this guy was killin’ it in like 02-06. Some were even comparing him to Kobe.

  • http://nba.com gp23

    *between 02-06

  • duckas

Yeah true, but he always had an attitude problem and he actually started killing in 00-01 when he got a fresh start in orlando

It doesn’t help that he has been on three terrible teams in the last 5 years. All of the coaches hes been under have no business running a player of his caliber. Give him to pop or phil jackson and hes still a 24 ppg scorer.

SO glad the Bulls didn’t sign him.
Thibs woulda had his a** shipped out months ago.

That’s f*cked up. He was playing really good basketball for the Pistons as of late, and he’s still their most talented player. It makes sense that the Pistons would cut down on their wing players (since they have so d@mn many), but you can’t help but feel for T-Mac. He should never had taken part in that 5-player protest… That was a bad move, especially since the Pistons have helped him rejuvenate his career. This is obviously his punishment from Kuester.

He would have been great for the Bulls though. No doubt about it–he just needs the motivation. Until then, have fun with Keith Bogans!

    Just kidding, I like Keith.

  • lockon

dont know whats up with kuester, but he needs his players. they could still push to qualify for the playoffs. dont know why the pistons are hating their coach. plus they aint no headline for the reason of the protest yet. if it is really a player protest, though

  • 2KInsider

    It takes 5.

  • VC15PNRO

@lockon: Get real: aside from Wlcox, all those guys in the boycott have had succes in the playoffs. They don’t give a crap about team record, as long as they don’t even have a shot at ECF or something…

    Sorry Wilcox

Damn! can T-Mac still get a buyout and sign elsewhere? He messed up by not asking for a trade then he messed up by taking part in the 5 player strike he could have been the star and showcased his abilities for next season because he would have got more minutes and Kuester would have let him go all out with the offense.

The Palace of Auburn is reportedly changing it’s preferred name to ‘The Doghouse’ effective from three weeks ago.

McGrady’s never been the best practicer, and now that he’s a role player rather than the best player on the team, he cant get away with it.

I thought it was funny when the mit ppl were talking about how you need like 10k hrs of practice to be at your best in basketball and vangundy spoke about t mac being at 1k hrs of practice. T Mac coulda been the best player ever. He had LeBron’s height and length, kobe’s pure basketball skills, and jumped like vince. He was practically born to play basketball. remember when a friend of his said something like “the thing about t-mac is that he doesn’t even like basketball”

Obviously Tracy McGrady is the Pistons best player and by not playing him coach Kuester is not giving the fans his best effort. But Joe Dumars is afraid to fire Kuester because of 2 things: 1. He has a year left on his contract after this year and 2. He is a lame duck GM since the Pistons are in the middle of a sale. So Dumars has to look like an idiot and say he suports Kuester. Dumars also say he would like to have Tracy McGrady back next year. Well, he has a funny way of showing it by sitting him on the bench. Tracy can just wait the final few games of the season because he will find a better home next year.
