Stephen Jackson Thinks the Bobcats Tanked Last Season

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Things didn’t end well for Stephen Jackson in Charlotte, as he was traded away to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a three-team deal.

According to Jackson, the Bobcats sat him on the bench towards the end of last season because they didn’t want to qualify for the Playoffs.

Jackson didn’t like the idea at the time, and isn’t afraid to say what he thinks was really taking place.

From the AP:

The former Bobcats shooting guard promises to bring some attitude to the Bucks after a three-way draft day trade landed him in Milwaukee. Jackson said he wasn’t bitter about the trade but he was confused as to why the Bobcats held him out with an injury toward the end of last season.

“The last 10 games, I could have played,” Jackson said. “But they shut me down. The team shut me down. So I kind of assumed they didn’t want to make the playoffs.”

In what was generally considered a very weak NBA Draft, one would have to wonder about Charlotte’s motivation to supposedly tank the last few games.

Whatever the case, Stephen Jackson gets a chance to move on with his career on a new team. Scott Skiles and Jackson are going to form a tremendous partnership in Milwaukee, wouldn’t you say?

Good trade for the Bucks. THe bulls shoulda stepped up and snatched him.

  • MikeC.

Scott Skiles won’t tank any games. That’s for sure.

Yeah, it was obvious they tanked.

    Tanked! For who?

  • RunNGun

    Bismack Biyombo.

maybe they didnt want him getting injured cause they knew they wanted to trade him. it would suck if they couldn’t trade him because he got injured during the last ten games of the season….Just my two cents

  • DieselMechanic

Look at the draft they got. It obviously worked!

  • greg

good teams need a goonie or two to inspire the team and keep confidence high. look at deshawn, artest, rodman, ben/rasheed wallace, without theese guys the team becomes soft and will give up when they are down, and relax on a big lead

  • andynorstrom

This whole ‘re-building’ idea is ridiculous IMO, teams should just play the game with the best players available rather than making their fans watch second-rate basketball for a year in hope of getting a better player in the free agent market- e.g. the Knicks before the summer of 2010

Do we gotta start fearing the deer?

  • BostonBaller

I’m leaning closer to the side of biged than that of Jackson. I’m thinking that the “attitude” he is going to take to the Bucks is a small part of the reason he keeps getting traded. He can ball but not as well as he thinks he can. This was not the reincarnation of the ’85 or ’96 draft. lol

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Yeah the Bobcats have a stream of cash flowing in every day, missing the playoffs wouldn’t hurt them financially, at all.

  • RunNGun

You can’t tank in the NBA. Stern knows where all the bodies are. That’s why there’s a story/headline every year in the NBA Draft, right Kaahhhnnn?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Bucks are going to be dangerous next year.
They dumped too chemistry killers in Salmons and Maggette. They added Jackson, who is a better overall player than both of them.
They got a very good back up point to push Jennings in Beno. Bogut gets to fully rehab and Illyasova can stop having his minutes jerked around.
Plus that cat they drafted last year, Larry Sanders, is a year better.
I like their chances to make the playoffs this year anywhere from 6-8.
Last year I said they would be bad and I was right about that too.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Yeah you were, I hate Milwuakee finishing I think 6th in the preseason last year, and I looked quite foolish for it. I will have them finishing 6 or 7 this year too, hopefully Captain Jack makes a sooper difference. The Beno thing is nice and all, but idk how much Scott Skiles will enjoy having a defenseless backup PG.

The bucks are gonna get smashed on by every team this year cuz they have no
hard nosed players!!!! Stephen Jackson about as tough as my grandma. C’mon Bucks you gotta step it up if you wanna win

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Hey CatKiller, did you know Stephen Jackson is the guy that locked up this years finals MVP in the first round of his MVP season? Jackson is 6’8″ – the guy he locked up is 7’0″ – Oh and he has a tattoo of praying hands with a gun on his chest. Not many tougher players in the league.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Lol anyone thinking Capt Jack is soft should’nt be able to look on this site.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Man I could lock up a 7footer in the NBA they are all tall skinny boys. My boy Eric gordan is for real you’ll be hearing his name for years. And it won’t be about his “attitude” either. So when the bucks wanna win they should find some real talent and somebody who isn’t known for fights or his large ego. Captin Jack can go sweep the poopdeck in Milwaukee B. Jennings runs the ship up there.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

I got respect for Jacksons game but I don’t see him as this hero you all think he should be!! C’mon the bucks need more than a mediocore scorer to help them win they need a leader that won’t negatively affect their chemistry

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Brandon Jennings runs the most inefficient ship in the league. I’m more then sure he’s happy to get a captain

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Capt Jack can’t be Captin. He is always top 5 in turnovers a game the last few seasons. C’mon how bout they just make him Captin of the ball rack….

    Check? Check what

  • Matt Park

Captain Jack has a huge mouth…literally

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    Also CatKiller.
Yeah, 7 footers are allways skinny boys..
And why aren’t you in the NBA then?

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Man I ain’t even eligible for the draft man I’m a junior in High school this is gonna be my 3rd year starting varsity. Pretty sure that’s more varsity time than you ever got. And Dwight is actually 6’11″ and I got respect for the he puts in to being stronger and more athletic than all ” big” men

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

CatKiller your not worth talking to. You obviously have no clue what your talking about. Jackson was 13th in TO per game this season. 10th last season. 10th the season before that. — Regardless, Jackson is clearly to anyone who knows Basketball the best player involved in the trade. Milwaukee got better beyond a shadow of a doubt.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Awwwh the blissful ignorance of youth rears its fresh pubed head.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

When the bucks live in the central divsion cellar this year I’m gonna talk so much smack on here.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Bucks are better because of this trade. It helps Jennings in everyway. Jackson and Beno can play on the court with him at the same time and take over handling the ball every couple of possessions. Jackson is a leader and much better defender than Maggette and Salmons. They have allot of defense on that team now. Jennings gets his steals, Jackson can lock anyone up, Bogut is obviously a block machine. That one dude with a name thats like Mbau Baut Tu Chacha is excellent. And sanders is real nice on defense and offense from the little i’ve seen from him.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

People are forgetting about Livingston. For some reason I found myself watching a lot of the Bobcats last year, and when he plays, he produces.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

hopefully you’ll be more focused on playing your 3rd year of Varsity basketball then how the Bucks are struggling to get into the playoffs. Jackson isn’t going to “save” anything, that team just was so bad last year they can’t get any worse. Plus every team Jackson goes to makes the playoffs and has a dramatic boost in *GASP* Chemistry. Happened in Indiana, Golden State, & Charlotte. Actually the only reason he has a bad reputation is because he ran into the stands to defend a TEAMMATE.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Yeah he can’t keep a job with a team. And in Charolette he made the playlets because of Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace. He made the playlets with the pacers because of Jermaine O’Neal and golden state because of J Rich

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Well, he had a bad rep because he’s a hothead who ran in the stands and also popped off shots outside of a strip club. But he’s a good dude in a lot of ways too.
Bucks have quality players at most positions. If Jennings finally makes a leap, they will be dangerous. If he continues to shoot sub 40-percent, they will probably be the 8th seed.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The strip club thing happened after he already had a bad rap lol. But your right. — CK, your too young for me to argue with. You obviously don’t know what your talking about or care too. – Like how Gerald Wallace and Raymond Felton were teammates for 3+ years and never made the playoffs….and then they got Stephen Jackson. But that doesn’t matter.

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Allenp knows what going down. Jackson is ok right now he has ability to be effective but also has ability to drag the bucks down in the standings…

  • http://Slamonline.com CatKiller

Ok Jackson gave them that small push to get to the playoffs but he wasn’t just him.. If you remember tyrus Thomas got traded there also and he had a solid month and a half stint of playing really well so Jackson if good but I don’t like his ego or the fact that people think he is. Savior everywhere he goes. Send him to Cleveland and see if he can fix that mess lol

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

HAHA he’s gonna drag them down in the standings? THey just missed the playoffs, going down in the standing (which won’t happen) wouldn’t change anything. Actually it would be better then staying where they were at, considering they’d likely get a better draft pick. oh well

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Damn CK, who is your team?
And I don’t know what you talking about with the vasity time, please explain.

Catkiller hasn’t played a game of varsity bball in his whole life.
