Jordan, Magic, Bird Cover NBA 2K12


Due to the success 2K Sports gained last year with Jordan on its cover, His Greatness is back on 2K12, along with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. More classic teams, challenges and games have been high on people’s wish list, and it looks like NBA 2K12 will deliver. Sick covers once again from 2K Sports!

    “How bout a cover with CURRENT players..??? So they can increase their marketability… ” last years cover with michael jordan was their most profitable and fastest selling title to date.

    I think it’s cool…this is probably the last year they’ll do it completely old school. I’m guessing next year they’ll have a Jordan cover and one or two current player covers.

    You can’t have a kobe challenge similar to MJ’s because how many iconic games has kobe had in the playoffs comparable to MJ, Bird, and Magic? Dude has like one 50 pt gm in 208 career playoff games. No one in the NBA today apart from TD has legendary, alltime individual playoff games/series comparable to past greats.

    Ew I hate Larry bird I have no respect for him at all. Magic is whatever to me too I’m not a lakers fan and never really cared about magic. Looks like I’m getting another GOAT Jordan cover!

    What’s crazy about Magic, Bird and Jordan is that all three of them could’ve played more or longer than they did. Magic’s career was cut short due to HIV (though he came back to play in like 30 games in 95-96), Bird due to back injuries and Jordan was retired from 93 to 95 and again from 98 to 2001.
    Imagine if those cats had played out their whole careers without interruptions? DAMN.

    It’s odd just because it’s 2 years in a row with MJ. The Bird and Magic ones were a great touch. But anyone who doesn’t understand that having MJ’s mug on your product means “best seller” probably just hasn’t been paying attention. Slam did it too, a few years back with “exclusive” MJ interviews… Being called GOAT isn’t a passing phase, he’ll raise profit margins for quite some time. That’s why he’s filthy stinking rich, so much so that he can donate 30 mil salaries. He makes bank off of ads because products fly off the shelves if he pushes them. Who here wouldn’t buy MJ deodorant? MJ brand kool-aid? Yeah, Durant beasted. So did Rose (round 2), so did a bunch of players. But an MJ cover still sells more. Hell, MJ kicks STILL sell more. And Dirk is nowhere to be found…

    I agree it should’ve been a current player. What about my boy D-Rose, the youngest MVP ever? Or duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook doing that back bumping thing would be cool. Or if people can get over LeBron, he’s never been on a game cover. So many choices. Let’s hope Michael Jordan doesn’t hog all of the 2k covers for the forseeable future.

    After all of your thought provoking insight on the Bird/Magic debate, I have decided… That neither is “better” then the other. They both bring multiple talents to the court. I want Magic running the show, and I want Larry scoring my buckets. One of the best debates in basketball though.

    I don’t think it should be a current player. Why not have one of the greatest players to ever grace the NBA in the NBA’s golden age be on the cover, we don’t need current guys on the cover, we already know who they are. Putting legends on the cover and in the video help little kids that don’t know alot about the NBA’s past, gives them a little insight.

    I’m going to disagree with BPhantom on this one. MJ would have come close to KAJ record but he probably would have fallen 1,500 pts short just like Malone did. Let’s say he didn’t retire, played the entire 94 and 95 seasons and avg. 30ppg. That would give him about 2,400 pts each season, equaling 4,800 total points then add that to his current career total of 32,000+ pts, that would give him about 37,000 career points. That’s still 1,000+ points short of the record. Now if the Bulls GM decided to resign PJax and MJ decided to come back after ’98, no doubt in my mind he would have broken the record.

    I get the craze, but I was sort of hoping for an all-encompassing legends game. Bring in teams and players from the 60s, 70s, 80s… all crazy challenges and stuff. Not just MJ mode, a Bird mode, a Magic mode, but Chamberlain and Kareem and Kobe and Russell and other sweet stuff.
    I mean, would anyone here NOT want to drop 100 with Chamberlain against a bunch of 5’9 white stiffs?

    SINCE THEY ARE DOING STORIES ABOUT OLD SCHOOL PLAYERS. NEXT YEAR SHOULD BE THE GREAT ONE HIMSELF DR.J ON THE COVER OF 2K13. BESIDES ALL THAT, PUT PLAYERS ON THE COVER WHO ARE PLAYING TODAY, PLAYERS LIKE D ROSE AND DIRK.

    I’m very in the same boat as a lot of guys on here – mad NBALive fan all the way from 95 to 2008. Switched it up with 2k10 and haven’t looked back since.
    I wouldn’t mind reverting to NBAlive if/when they release something for the current season but I really, really hope it’s up to scratch. The 2k series for the past 2 editions have blown everything out of the water as far as my expectations go; playability, enjoyment, graphics, A.I, continuity etc….
    Loving it.
    I currently have an ASSOCIATION mode with the Suns going – it’s their 3rd year under my management and they have a different roster. I love the created rookie/sim feature.

    The 2k series originally had AI on the cover for years so repeating Jordan makes sense. Having Kobe challenges has been done before in games (they were achievements/trophies). 2K has definitely been the best thing around for a while now but the online community is by far the worst I’ve ever come across – and I’ve been a hardcore gamer since the late 90s.

    I’ve played 2k since chris paul was on the cover live was never realistic to me ! to me tho they should forget the mj cover even tho it would sell & put bird and larry on the cover together & have their battles starting with the national championship game

    Love MJ, love Bird, love Magic, but this should’ve been Rose or LBJ. We’re finally at a time where the league is filled with great players, players who are about to create their own legacy. Last year was cool and all, but this is super lame. Seriously. I love watching old school videos as much as the next guy but can we please move on. You don’t see Madden putting Jim Brown on Madden 12. You don’t see Ken Griffey Jr. on MLB 11 the show. Totally agree with some of the comments that the new guys should get their shine.

    i have been playing 2k11 all day everyday, i need something new for association because after a couple years in association i get bored and make another team, i probably made about 60 different teams, i started to love association in 2k10 though when everything got sexier than jordans crossovers.
    wish it was just magic and larry though :/

Well Jordan was the only legend on a cover and as I recall was just only a year ago hoe many other legends u seen in the 2000′s….. Yeah none dummy dummies can’t wait to see what 2k has to offer now the same thing happened to e because they have NFL rights to videogames now that ea isn’t producing a NBA game yal starting a trend on hating 2k before a game even com out becuz of who’s on the cover u guys r just dum all that dislikes put yo money together and build a gaming studio and let’s see yal do better…. I’m waiting.

    A minha idéia e que o jogador poderia escolher a temporada que quizesse jogar ex. 1995, 1988 com os jogadores da época e assim iria entrando os novatos conforme foi acontecendo na vida real. A 2k agradaria todos os fãs de todas as épocas. Abraco.
