Greg Oden Running Again

The Blazers’ star-crossed big man updated the world through his Twitter feed about his rehab progress. From the Sporting News: “The Portland Trailblazers’ former No. 1 pick Greg Oden posted Thursday on his personal Twitter account that he ran for the first time since undergoing his second microfracture surgery 11 months ago. ‘In LA right now working out,’ Oden wrote. ‘I ran the other day for the first time in awhile. Felt good!’ … Oden has played in 13 82 total games over his career and missed significant time in each of his three NBA seasons.”

In 2 weeks there will be an article on how he injured his knee running down hill.

  • Pavlek

    13 games? in the preseason…

  • vtrobot

13 games in three years. Wow.

  • robb

    be careful grandpa

  • OEasy

82, not 13. Still not good, but better than what’s printed. You think people would fact check before they publish, but I guess that’s asking too much.

  • bike

He’s just now running for the first time in 11 months? Are we sure that they didn’t amputate his leg? At this rate he will be ready to go in about 2015.

Right, thirteen sounded powerfully low. He’s played in more than that.

It’s been pretty dim, but hope he can have a healthy career moving forward.

  • MIGZ

I still say he was jinx bye one of the analyst’s i remember he was interviewed last season after he had a decent game a day before they ask him if he was worried about getting injured Greg reported he wasn’t trying to even think about it and the analyst wished him and the portland team good luck ,sure enough it happened it was like that next week he got injured but my point is why would you talk about injury issues after he just had a good game that probably stayed stuck in that back of his mind, just like football if you play in fear of being injured your bound to get injured……..WE STILL HAVE FAITH GREG!!!

If and when he returns to the NBA he needs to cover himself head to foot in Neoprene and have braces on every joint. Maybe then he’ll survive a season unscathed.

  • mike

If Greg Oden stays healthy, Portland will have a beast squad this season.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I guess mike doesn’t know about Brandon Roy not being healthy either.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

He can only have a career in Phoenix with the mirical docters..

  • Yesse

I laughed so hard when i read the article. Eddy Curry can probably run more than him.

  • rich

maybe if that mcdonalds is really far away

  • mike

Wes Matthews and Ray Felton is still a nice backcourt, Enigmatic. But yes, I did assume Roy was getting back to health.

Portland is going to resign him.

  • LA Huey

Portland is going to resign him for too much money.

    Lol thanks Huey

  • dickhead

@Zogs A retard may be able to run, but a true moron misses the point of this article.

^^ Your name is “dickhead” nuff said

  • MikeC.

Tomorrow we’ll have a headline that says “Greg Oden to undergo surgery again.”

  • MikeC.

If any SLAM posters are doctors, or med students, maybe you can weigh in on this. I have a friend that was hit by a train and had his leg amputated just below the knee. In less than 6 months, he was running and biking with his prosthetic leg. He has returned to work as a forest fire fighter and his training times are better post-injury. If this is possible, then what in the world is up with Greg Oden taking 11 months to start running after knee surgery?

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

@MikeC – Basically, your friend is probably in his mid 20s? Greg Oden is 37 years old. It’s just an age thing.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

1,192. Thats the number of CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED by A.C. Green in the NBA. Thats almost 14 regular seasons (14.536) of 82 games whereby A.C. Green recorded playing time…. Thats astounding (it may very well include playoff games too though). Thats incredible. Thats so the opposite of Greg Oden.

I will admit at this point I don’t expect anything from Oden from year to year, so any production at all is just gravy for the Blazers. And of course it hurts to see Durant become more unstoppable by the day. But watching Greg play the limited amoount that I have it is still clear why he was a #1 pick. The guy can get 10 rebounds in his sleep and two years ago seemed to be rounding into some kind of form offensively too. If he ever manages to put a full season together I have faith that he will be very impressive by the end. I just hope he doesn’t wind up doing that somewhere other than Portland. We don’t need another Jermaine O’neal situation, and Oden’s potential is twice what Jermaine’s ever was. That said, it is very disheartening to hear that he is just now able to run. It suggests that he won’t be healthy enough to play by the end of the season if there is one.
