Jordan Crawford: ‘I Can Be Better Than Michael Jordan’


Up until now, Jordan Crawford’s biggest accomplishment had been dunking on LeBron James during an offseason run (the infamous dunk footage that Nike tried to confiscate in 2009.) He’s now talking about one day being better at basketball than Michael Jordan. The Wizards may not be a very good team right now, but they do set some awfully big goals for themselves. Per the WaPo: “On the bio section of his Twitter account, @jcraw55, Jordan Crawford mentions a very audacious ambition: ‘On A Mission to become the GREATEST!!!!!! WHY NOT?’ Get out of the way, Dwyane. I want to be the best. (Nick Wass – AP) Seems like an decent motivational tool. Dream big, achieve big. When asked to elaborate on that statement last month at the Impact Basketball Competitive Training Series in Las Vegas, Crawford explained how he believes Jordan will go down as the greatest to play the game — just not the Jordan you would expect. ‘I don’t tell nobody, but I feel like I can be better than Michael Jordan,’ Crawford said, without the slightest hint of sarcasm. ‘When I’m done playing, I don’t want people to say, Michael Jordan is the best player. I want that to be me. That’s how I am. That’s how I was built.’ Um, what? You realize people will look at you sideways and think you’re crazy for saying that, right? ‘Yeah, I know that, I definitely know that. But I’m not settling for anything less,’ Crawford said. ‘I feel like I’m better than him, anyway. My mom is going to say I’m better than him.’”

    And I mean who didn’t know that this kid had super confidence .I mean this is the same kid who tried ( and succeeded) at dunking on two time MVP Lebron James ,as a college sophomore , at Lebron’s own freaking basketball camp! It takes an insane amount of confidence to pull off someething like that.

    Um Crawford thats good that you have confidence and a drive to become the best player in the league today and want to work as hard as the G.O.A.T and try to acheive what no one today has even come close to taking micheal jordan throne as the greatest of all time im all for that go for it i have nothing against that BUT what i am wondering is can you handle the the situation you put yourself in by making these statements public i think that was a huge mistake becuse everything you do from here on out is going to be critically compared to MIKE JORDAN #23 who has 6 MVPS, 6 CHAMPIONCHIPS and the only man to win the mvp and defensive player award in the same year Crawford listen im not sayin you dont have a chance because anything is possible but anything you do from here on out if its not better than what mike did or at least on the same level your not going to get no credit for it no matter how good it is you made ppl view you different now nothing average or good is expected from you now only legendary or else its a joke good luck bro your gonna need it.

    THATS WHAT I LOVE TO HEAR. I REALLY LIKE THIS KID!!!!!…so much confidence. You can tell on the court that he really feels like he can hang with anyone. John Wall better get used to sharing the rock out of that back court. Jordan’s a much more poised ball handler, much more skilled in my honest opinion, MUCH MUCH better scorer. In the half court scenario I’m taking Jordan over Wall. I’m gonna call it already, he’s gonna be my favorite player this season

    i think most elite NBA players are better than jordan in certain terms there so much competetion that if jordan was in the league now in his prime they would be at the same speed if not faster, players now a days are some much faster and stronger then back then they couldnt keep up with jordan…. but CRAWFORD has alot more to gain then just winning the 6 man award he and players like j.r smith need to step up this season and how about starting because the people your coming off the bench for shouldnt be starting over you
    and Crawford should run the point instead of being a two in ATL

    @tjc; if you read the whole article he said the first thing he wants to do is win. That by being a great winner he’ll surpass Mike. I like JCs confidence, I hope the Wizards put their faith in him to play with Wall this season. He dropped 39 in his rookie year, which is a nice accomplishment. He’s older than I thought he was though, which could hurt his chances of being a great player (I’ll leave the GOAT part alone).

    Anyways As a Hawks fan I always liked Jordan Crawford, I was hoping he would one day replace Joe Johnson, but NOOO, the retarded ASG gave Joe Johnson that BIG contract,SMH. Jordan Crawford is a special player that never got any playing time in Atlanta I was sad when he got traded to the Wizards but at least now he’s getting some playing time. Anyways NO WAY IN HELL he’ll be better than Jordan.

    I’ll be rooting for the kid, he’s got game. Will he become a better player than MJ? Probably not, but who cares? Whatever it takes to motivate yourself to reach your goals. How is it sad to say you want to be or you think you’re the best ever at your occupation? It amazes me how some of yall get so up in arms at the sheer mention of the possibly that someone may, at some point in the near or distant future, be better than Michael Jordan. Stop being so closed minded.
