Boris Diaw to Play Point Guard and Center for the Bobcats

Head coach Paul Silas intends to use Boris Diaw as some kind of point guard/center hybrid in Charlotte this season. What could possibly go wrong?! From the Observer: “A basketball oxymoron, right? How can a center be a point guard or how could a point guard play center? Imagine an NFL team featuring a player who is half-quarterback/half-nose guard. And yet ‘point-center’ is the role Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas envisions for Boris Diaw this season. That’s partially about circumstance (by default Diaw is their best option at center right now) and partially about skill set (Diaw is by far this team’s most creative passer). So for the Bobcats to have any success, Diaw must excel at many things at once. ‘He can get a rebound, take it off the dribble, everyone else is zooming (down-court) and he can either make the pass or take it in and make the layup, himself,’ Silas described. ‘There are so many things we can do if he only buys in. And he will.’”

    Boris Diaw isn’t Magic Johnson…

    Oh lawd….

What does that say about DJ Augustin and Kemba Walker? Clearly he has no faith in them. lol

Aaah well, it’s the Bobcats let them try something..

  • Stroshow

Translation: The Bobcats are really, really bad this year.

So what position is Kemba going to play?

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

no but, he did something like this with the suns. so it might work out. Maybe?

They tried to call him that in Phoenix too. Then eventually, everyone realized he wasn’t good enough for that much responsibility. Too bad Paul Silas wasn’t paying attention.

Maybe what SIlas meant was that they will run the offense from the post ala Divac or Webber when they were making a run with the kings. Good passing from your center can create havoc for the opposing defense. With that being said cosign @Stroshow

Lol, Bobcats are really going all out. First they make Maggette their go to guy and now they let a power forward play at the point.

    Is MJ a psychic?

He was drafted as a 6’9″ SG. (For the record.)

^ Actually, Boris was scouted as a point guard, but the Draft analysts and the Hawks changed his position as a SG for TV, because of his unconventional skill set. But you’re right, NBK.

    I really like Diaw.(in 2006)

    thanks Dova, never knew that.

I kinda wanna know the fantasy implications of this because I have him on my team and I’m thinking about cutting him. Hopefully he can be listed as a G,F, and C.

Co-Sign Gerard Himself. Really enjoy watching guys like this play. I do the same myself, but that’s because i’m playing pickup games and small leagues where a 6’5″ dude can dominate down low and on the perimeter. He is one of maybe 5 players with that kind of size and skill set in the L.

Come on, Charlotte. You’re not even close to being playoff-bound this year. Let the young guys get some run.

  • matt

to be fair, Diaw, along with LBJ and Odom, are the only players in the NBA who can play all 5 positions. LBJ can play all 5 with great affect and could fit into any side in the league. LO would struggle as a SG though. Diaw has played all 5 positions for PHX. Diaw is the type of guy who does many things well but does nothing great. He shouldn’t play more than 26 mins/game for this young bobcats team that needs their young guns to play. Also, Bismack is officially coming to the bobcats, so, maybe diaw won’t play C.

cosign matt. and I hear you nbk

“Ok, Boris, you’re point-center, Kemba, you’re forward shooter, DJ, you’re ball-handler, dribbler, Tyrus, you’re big man jumping guy, and Henderson, you do whatever Mr. Jordan wants of you.”

  • Heals

Meet your 2012 Charlotte Bobcats, the NBA’s bizarro basketball team. Everytime there is some press for this team that is intended to be positive it’s always negative. First it was Maggette, then Ty and now this wonderful nugget. Well at least the new CBA will help them land D12 or the next big FA…

Anthony Mason ran point forward for don nelson it worked ok. i think Diaw is a better passer but Mason was a better ball handler, thinking of Mason makes me chuckle at his one handed lefty free throw. I think its getting close to the time we give up on the “standard” team structure. Diaw is not a center, and just because Magic did it for a game doesnt make him one either, this experiment wont last long. They need to free Kemba

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    LMAO @Caboose.

  • riggs

he was doing the same thing with the french national team

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

He played this kind of role for the Suns!! This is nothing new – The year that he (along with Amare) was suspended against the crucial game/s against the Spurs in the WCF his numbers were an incredibly efficient 14ppg, 7rpg, 7apg. He is an incredibly well rounded player defensively as well as offensively.. infact if you do a youtube search for Boris Diaw being praised by none-other than Bill Walton you get this AMAZING Bill Walton soliloquy about the guy. One of my favourites… I always try to acquire him when I do association modes/dynasty modes on 360.

  • Stickz

Can’t believe there’s so many postings on Diaw! Really can’t believe I added to it!

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

    hahahaha caboose

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Dacre, he played the role for what 13 minutes a game? That aspect of everything is so damn overrated. Steve Nash is the point man, 100% of the possessions he takes part of in Phoenix. Boris Diaw making a play and passing the ball to an open teammate is not being a point guard. Or a point forward. It’s being a basketball player. He never set up plays for more than small stretches at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters, and usually Phoenix’s lead was stalled or dwindling during those minutes.
