Indiana Pacers Sign David West to Two-Year, $20 Million Deal

It looked like free agent David West was headed to Boston, but those talks hit a snag and the Pacers appear to have reaped the benefits. Via Yahoo!‘s Adrian Wojnarowski: “David West has agreed to a 2 year, $20 million deal with Pacers, league source tells Y.”

    Bye, bye Chris…

  • http://www.aol.com wagers

Obviously doesn’t care about winning, all about the dough.

  • pp

i thought you said you want to win better chance at celtics
i hope we get back into the cp3 trade thing

  • kobesBESTfriend

Pacers are my sleeper team this year…top 4 in the east if they get Mayo

  • gubbins

Feel a bit sorry for Hansbrough. He played well last season.

  • http://Www.dimemag.com Royal

Granger,West,Hibbert…with Tyler coming of the bench… That’s a soilid front court

  • neaorin

Wow. A borderline All-Star in his early 30s getting only a two year deal. Wow! I know, torn ACL and everything, but still. There’s NO way we would have seen anything like this in the pre-crisis years. There may be hope for this league yet.

  • Red

    They still suck.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Collison, Hill, Granger, West, Hibbert with Psycho T, Paul George, Dahntay Jones, and McRoberts off the bench? That’s a solid team actually.

  • sam

I agree with Royal. I think the Pacers can be a 40 win team this year if they play their cards right. If Hibbert developed in the off-season he could become a top 10 Center in the NBA this season. The addition of West also makes their team stronger.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

If I’m Bird I call up Demps and see what it would take to get Chris Paul. Small market teams rejoice if a deal gets done.

  • nicholas

that’s a really solid team i deffently wouldn’t sleep on them

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

ORANGE: Collison, George, Hibbert, and Posey for Paul, Okafor, and Willie Green?

  • thor

Caboose, you must be kidding right? Plus Pacers are really looking strong actually. Definitely someone to look out for.

  • Der

    To Red: Ignorant little kid…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

How about Granger, Collison, Hansbrough, and picks for Chris Paul. If not that, get a third team for Granger so the Hornets can get more young players and picks. Make it happen, Demps!

  • Heals

Yeah, this was writing on the wall late yesterday (from the C’s perspective). Bummer, but good move for the Pacers if it works out. They’re going to be hell for somebody in the 1st (maybe, maybe 2nd) round…

  • http://www.slamonline.com megatron

paul george is gonna be so good in a couple years

  • eZ

If they get mayo i’m a fan: collison, mayo, granger, west, hibbert and a bench of foster, jones, hansbrough and george. Top 5 team in the east..

  • Red

LOL @ eZ top 10 maybe lol, not Top 5 they’re clowns.

  • riggs

    WTF C’s???

  • thor

@Red They were the number eight seat last year, don’t you think they’ll be better with the new additions?
As it looks now, this is my prediction of the outcome in east:
    Miami
    Bulls
    New York
    Boston
    Orlando
    Atl
    Indiana
    New Jersey
    ——-
    Milwaukee
    Charlotte

If D12 goes to Nets, then they’ll shift place with Magic.

  • Warren G

    WOW

  • http://modularpeople.com Fut.

Indiana have been a good team the last 12 years, they just keep clippering it away.

  • RandalJ

    Indiana look great!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Not sure the Celtics could have paid him as much, but… they definitely should have tried harder to persuade him.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

I like this signing. West will be a leader in Indiana (where he would not in Boston), he will get paid 10 million per for probably the last time in his career, and this team will be a tough out for the top teams in the east. he’s in a far better position than he was in NOLA. Good move, David.

  • money makin O

The Pacers will finally get that vocal leader that they lacked and needed desperately… At his worst he’ll give you 15,8… that makes the pacers a threat in the east, and when you really look at it, it makes them the most complete team in the east, cuz theyre solid at every position

  • http://knicks.com Gametimeweezy

nice little deal there good stuff

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

10 Mill a season for a guy who is coming off of an ACL tear that provides literally nothing significant to a team but a mid range jumper? And everyone thinks it’s a good deal for Indiana? Lol whatever. He doesn’t fit in, that will be proven this season when Indiana is no better with him then without.

  • DJ

I was afraid of this deal being 4 or 5yrs but to get him for 2 and then potentially get mayo wow we will still have financial flexibility left for improvement this season and probably next great deal pacers now just talk to the morons at fox get them to stop showing cavs games in Louisville!!!

  • DJ

Oh and ndk u don’t think this is going to help hibbert get space in the paint to work because west can stretch the floor maybe you didn’t think your comment through

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lol Roy Hibbert getting more offensive space is gonna improve the team in terms of how much they win? How good do you think Roy Hibbert is? I thought my comment throguh plenty, other than what West can do offensively (which isn’t a whole lot) he adds absolutely nothing. 1/5th of Indiana’s cap space for the next two years is now dedicated to a guy who has never averaged More than 21 points or 8.9 rebounds in a single season. It’s not like you can say he didn’t have a ton of help getting those numbers, he played with the best PG in the league. Now he’s playin with Darren Collison after he blew up his knee. It’s safe to say I don’t agree with anyone paying him more than $8Mill a season. I understand why Indiana did it, and that it won’t hurt the team on the court, but I just wouldn’t have done it.

  • IndyG

@nbk I agree with most of your points but 2 years ago when Paul got injured, west and collison actually played pretty well together, so sure that factored in

  • Teddy-the-Bear

^ Ha, I almost forgot West and Collison played together. That was when Collison and Marcus Thornton were looking like the best players in their draft class. I bet the Hornets miss having those young guys now that Paul is out.

  • LA Huey

Only 2 years and $20 million. I expected something much more silly.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

@ megatron….. sure is… at up grading my value meal to include the shake and large fries.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    Look out for the Pacers.

  • MrMosley

They also got George Hill late last year. The Pacers will be solid this season and moving foward.
