New York Knicks to Be ‘Aggressive’ in Recruiting JR Smith?

Once JR Smith is liberated from China, the New York Knicks are expected to go after him hard, but they’ll face stiff competition around the League for his services. From the NY Post: “Mike D’Antoni acknowledged the Knicks’ need for another shooter and indicated the club would be ‘aggressive’ in looking at free agent guard J.R. Smith. Smith, a former Nugget, will be eligible to play in the NBA once FIBA clears him following his Chinese Basketball Association playoff run. He’s on the Knicks’ radar and the feeling appears to be mutual — unless the club is getting used again. Smith tweeted on Friday: ‘New York City is where it’s at!’ However, Smith’s father said this week his son is looking for more than the Knicks room exception of $2.5 million. He scored 60 points in a playoff game in China earlier this week, though Smith has a spotty reputation character-wise. ‘I know [interim general manager] Glen [Grunwald] every day will canvas the league and talk and try to make the team better,’ D’Antoni said. ‘Whether it’s D-League, free agency, trades. Whatever make sense and helps the team we’ll do. We have to be very aggressive. We know the areas we need help.’”

Since the Knicks are in the process of making moves that make no sense, SIGN ME TOO!

Defense hasn’t been the problem. They’re defense has been solid, for the knicks, for most of the season. Issue is there’s no scoring. If the knicks could score like they have in the past under d’antoni and continue to play the moderately improved defense they have this year, they’d be a top 5 seed in the East. Douglas is shooting 29% from three. Melo is struggling like never before. Stat is struggling like never before. They need offense. Easy buckets, floor spacers, etc ..

NY needs a shooter off the bench and a PG with a pulse.

Amare Stoudemire: Now I’ll NEVER get the ball! LOL!

There just isn’t enough basketballs to go round for this to work! There will be too many chuckers on the New York Bricks..

Good signing athletic guard who can score in bunches, all the knicks really need is better PG play which has been horrendous. J. Lin actually looked in control of the offence when he played the other night. I’m surprised the guards have had such difficulty running an offence when they have such good Forwards to play with.

It’s comical how people buy into media hype. The NYK problem is not defense; it’s the offense. They have to rely on Melo/Stat to much for points. JR would not only start but score in bunches occasionally for them. He should have told his Dad to STFU. At this point in the season the most he’s going to get is the mini-mid-level.

JR Smith already said he won’t sign for the MLE. Slam posted the article last week.

now the Knicks need to play with 5 basketballs. i suppose that’s how you beat the other team, by having more balls than the opposing team can defend.

OMG, THIS CANT HAPPEN, IT WILL NEVER WORK, THERES NOT ENOUGH SHOTS, THERE IS 0% CHANCE THIS CAN WORK…oh, they went to the WCF together? You dont say…well carry on then…

They thought that they could get far with two All-Stars, but both Amare and Carmelo are overrated one-dimensional players – and they want to add another one? These types of players do no lead a team to a championship – unless they have a strong defensive center or more importantly, a great point guard.

If D’Antoni got headaches from Nate Robinson, JR Smith will liquify his brains.

Glad some people actually realize that defense is not the problem….. Say what u want about there not being enough basketballs to go around. I don’t think thats a problem. If u give JR Smith the type of shots that Fields and Shumpert take, like the wide open ones in the fourth against Boston on friday, JR Smith will hit them. Plus, he’s a good pick and roll player. He and Nene clicked at will on them and I expect the same with him and Stoudemire, that is if he’s goes to New York.

Did anybody read what nbk said? Apparently not

The Bulls should get him, then trade Boozer and Noah for Howard.

you guys are looking at this the wrong. Who can we trust off the bench to make a shot? Not shump. Walker is too inconsistent. TD sucks. Jeffries can’t make lay-ups. Davis is hurt. Are best option is Harrelson when he comes back. Are bench when he get healthy would be JR, Davis, Jeffries, Shump, Walker and Harrelson. That’s not bad. I think they might also need another big. Or give Jordan more minutes
