Andray Blatche: Booing Fans Hurting Him, Wizards

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Andray Blatche’s season so far can only be classified as an ongoing disaster. The same can be said for the rest of his Washington Wizards teammates.

Wizards fans are powerless as they watch their team’s floundering ways on a nightly basis, and according to Blatche, their boos are only serving to make things considerably worse for himself and the rest of the squad.

Bullets Forever caught up with a dejected Andray Blatche last night, after the Wiz dropped yet another home game (their 15th loss in 20 attempts at the Verizon Center):

Blatche admitted that the booing really affects him and said he found it “very frustrating.” “It’s tough when you’re at home and people that are supposed to have your back don’t have your back,” he said. “Instead of encouraging you to get better, they actually push you down and make you worse. In the long run, it’s not only hurting me, it’s hurting my teammates. That’s what I feel most upset about because I can’t help out and perform for my teammates, because I’m letting the crowd get into my head and making me second-guess, not let me be the player that I am,” he added. “It’s very frustrating. Hopefully, I’m just trying to fight to overcome it.”

Blatche admitted that the boos affect him every time he touches the ball, causing him to be hesitant. “Any time I’m touching the ball, I’m second-guessing,” he said. “I’m trying to avoid the boos, just trying to play a perfect game so I don’t have to hear it and help my team win.” [...] “It got to the point now when I came to sub in, the boos are coming. They won’t even give me a chance. So I don’t know, I’m going to continue to try to work. Hopefully, something will happen for me. I don’t know,” he said.

This isn’t the first time that Andray Blatche has voiced concerns about the acrimonious relationshp between the Wizards and their hometown fans, which of course, only exacerbates the situation.

The Washington Wizards have reportedly been active in their attempts to trade away Blatche, but his lack of production (and fears about a bad attitude) have made it difficult to get that done. Andray and the Wizards fans might be stuck together for a while in their loveless marriage.

Till boos do us part, as the old saying goes.

I’m a wizards fan and I have been there when the boos come, but when he does something right they cheer. He gets the reaction he gets because he doesn’t play with any purpose or sense of actual basketball knowledge. It seems like he doesn’t even try hard to play better and this was b4 the booing. IMO

  • CorySP8

I was there last night and you’re right, the two times he did something good the fans cheered. I guess he thinks people are supposed to cheer and support his bad shots and turnovers.

    Waive this guy already.

yes I think that fans are really simple. It’s more of a stage-fright kind of thing. The key is at this point is to accept the boos, go out there and perform like every game is a road game. It’s unfortunate, I know, you can’t let negativity be your motivation forever, or you’ll get an ulcer. But at this point, he’s got to turn it into his music. Like when LeBron went back to Cleveland and dropped like 32 points or so in 3 quarters. Something like that. I could be projecting but I remember LeBron was completely in a different place mentally than all the people booing him.

This is exactly why guys need to go to college for several years so they can become seasoned. Mr. Blatche has shown his immaturity from day one. No one owes him anything and he needs to keep working. But too often in the past he has shown that he has not risen to the occasion and DC fans (who are very knowledgable of basketball) let him know that his efforts are not appreciated. But honestly what is expected when a guy has no seasoning. If he went to College or in the case of JaVale McGeee stayed in College you can’t tell me they would not be better players. They would have dealt with the hostile gyms and the overall pressure. There aren’t too many Kobe’s and KGs. Most guys need the years in college to develop their games and mentality for the game.

makes sense; not every person talented enough to make it into the pros can handle the booing, the heckling, the personal nature that some fans want to bring it to. entirely understandable, yet this is your profession. step up, young fella. you got this!
(but seriously, play better. you do some really dumb ish sometimes)

  • zero

Trade Blatche,, he will be better on other team who needs a big man..maybe wizard is not the team for him

  • Sparker

would wittle andray like someone on the bench to hold his hand?

  • http://www.slamonline.com KulchaKris

@Avery Smith the key word in your post is “mentally”. Blatche, by all accounts, is a mental midget. Actually, as a fan of this team since the Capital Centre days, I can honestly say this group demonstrates the lowest basketball IQ I have witnessed in years. I’m sure Flip was overjoyed the day he got fired, and Randy Wittman is counting down the days.

  • Sizzle

Uhhhh Andray you ever think it’s frustrating for your fans to watch you jack up ill-advised shots on a nightly basis? The real loser in all of this is John Wall. Dudes got skills and he is stuck with a bunch of duds…

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

who saw the dude with the custom made baltche jersey?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I usually think it’s stupid when fans boo the home team or home players, but in Blatche’s case, I say let it rain down upon him.
That dude irks me. I tried to give him a chance, but those days are over.

    This team………………..

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

A picture is worth a thousand words. That thumbnail pic of Blatche says it all.

  • Jer Dawg

Wizards are a joke. If I constantly see crooked highlights and read stupid headlines about the Wizards then they suck really bad and their ownership has a lot to do with it. Ted Leonsis can go f*** himself. Those players can get it, too. Whiny bunch of fools.

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

@zero he is a big man only in height, he doesn’t play like one. Will somebody please take him off the roster. Bobby Brown look-a-like!

  • MUBWAR

looooooooooooool at Abe. as a raptors fan i feel you.

  • bike

The wizards might benefit as a team by attending one of those wilderness retreats where they get in touch with themselves, communicate with nature, and contemplate their weenies.

  • http://www.slamonline.com the_unknown

this sorry team doesn’t those dope uniforms they were rewarded with at the beginning of the season -__-

  • timbo slice

co sign with mubwar, raptors are the same ……….

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

raptors have a legit excuse that their best player has been out most of the year.
no such luck for the wizards

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Raptors also don’t have their 2011 draft pick until next year. I can’t wait to see Jonas Valanciunas play for the Raps. They went from worse defensive team to somewhere in the middle now. Props to Dwane Casey. Once we get Jonas and (hopefully a top 5 2012 draft pick), things should look brighter.

If I saw Andray Blatche in public I would boo him. Or shake my head at him. I haven’t seen someone make such diarrhea out of their god given talent in a long time.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I mean, what kind of grown ass man blames other people who do nothing but express their displeasure (after years of support) for someone who has made no effort to improve himself. Andray Blatche is a pathetic little crybaby b*tch. I can’t believe he would complain about being booed, and blame his inability to improve on fans. what a terrible, horrible, pathetic thought process and blame the world mentality. The more I think about this the worse my view on Andray Blatche as a professional becomes. Horrible.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

I’m no Javale Mcgee but I would book Andre too. Even at practice.

  • burnt_chicken

    BOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Wiz fan

Get him the hell out of here!!!

  • T-Money

i saw andray blatche at a nye party at the sheraton in cristal city 4 years ago. he was sitting down near the elevators in jeans and wife beater, completely drunk, drinking veuve cliquot from the bottle with a little puke on his wife beater (everyone else was business casual, including some wizards). that told me all i needed to know about how his career was going to unfold.

  • MaxIsNative

    Should play better.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Andray Blatche needs to get his ish together. You never voice displeasure with YOUR FANS for booing the terrible product you are putting out on the floor. Instead you should say I’d be booing too, if I was a Wizard fan. It’s their right to boo, and the way we are playing they should boo. We got a lot of work to do. Everyone on this Wizard team has to look in the mirror and ask themselves how they can make this team better…but then again, Andray is no IAMORANGE4EVER.

WOW what kind of professional athlete whines to the media about getting booed. Kobe has gotten booed by his own fans, Lebron has gotten booed by his own fans do you think that affected them. No it just made them work harder. Man stop whinning about your lack of game and get in the gym and work on getting better and then maybe the fans will begin to cheer you on. It’s you work ethic they are booeing.

  • gg

He was playin good last yr

  • http://www.borntocompete.com Money$hot

Andray Blatche is starting to sound like a lil Andray Biatch

  • Dr. DL

Man. Andray Blatche has been down for a bit now. Nice to see the internet community is here to do its part by kicking him. That’s how we men do it right?

  • Justin G.

I don’t know Orange. You’re both delusional in different ways. You about your Knicks having a shot at a title and Blatche in why he’s unable to improve.

  • Hosch Kibosch

Those fans are not hurting the Wizards, they’re saving the rebuild. Grunfeld is a deer in the headlights he fundamentally does not understand how to develop talent. The majority of us couldn’t believe he gave blatche an extension, and if he wasn’t getting booed the entire game they would keep him here giving zero effort on the boards, zero effort on defense, launching up team killing deep 2s the entire game. Blatche is getting booed because it’s the only way to get him out of town. Those fans are saving the Wizards.

Grunfeld is putting together the worst team in the league. You have a star PG, and an ultra athletic C. Let them develop and draft a PF next season. Why do we need Jordan Crawford putting up 20 points a game, he’s not going #1 in the draft he’s going #30 so get him the hell out of John Wall’s way what the f Grunfeld. John Wall spends half the game passing to angry looking J.Crawford so he can launch up the same crap 2s Blatche puts up when he’s in the game. Grunfeld is an idiot I wish they would fire him immediately, if my GM brought in J.Crawford, Blatche, and guys with 0 basketball IQ I would be out sooner rather than later.

Hire Shocka Smart as Head coach that guy is tight.
