Kobe Bryant: Playing Against Derek Fisher Will Be Emotional

Derek Fisher made his debut for the OKC Thunder last night, a bizarre sight to be sure, and former teammate Kobe Bryant says that when the Lakers and Thunder face off next week, it will be an emotional affair for all parties. From the LA Times: “Despite all the accolades for Ramon Sessions, the Lakers haven’t forgotten about Derek Fisher. They were well aware he signed with Oklahoma City for the rest of the season. They’ll see him March 29 when they play host to the Thunder, as if that game needed any more story lines. ‘It’s going to be emotional, I’m sure, for everybody, him and I in particular,’ Kobe Bryant said. Or as Metta World Peace said: ‘Kobe and Fish … mmm mmm mmm. Didn’t they win five rings together?’ Fisher had five points and an assist in 19 minutes of his first game with the Thunder, a 114-91 victory Wednesday against the Clippers. [...] ‘The Thunder needed him,’ Bryant said. ‘He brings a lot of stability and obviously veteran leadership, and he can make big shots.’ Fisher and Bryant won’t be friends March 29. ‘We don’t get five championships by being sympathetic towards each other,’ Bryant said. ‘He understands that. He switches off of me in the post, it’s going to be problems. I’m sure he’ll put an elbow right in my back. That’s why we love each other.’”

How awesome would it be for them to hit big shots back to back on 29th against each other ……….with LA coming out on top at Staples.

    This game on TV?

Good job, Fisher. Instead of staying in Houston for your daughter’s health, you sign with the highest ranking team in the NBA.

Was it was less emotional when Fish played for the Jazz & Warriors?

i know, ppl forget this is his fourth franchise.

Derek Fisher DIDN’T NEED TO STAY in Houston because of his daughter’s health. If we rememeber correctly, he came for that type of care to Los Angeles, when he left the Jazz to come back to L.A.

Now that L.A. unceremoniously shipped him out, if he choses to go to the HIGHEST RANKING NBA team, then more power to him. The guy has earned the right to go make a big shot for any team (other than the Lakers/Rockets), and OKC was smart in picking him up. If Houston wouldn’t have bought out his contract, he’d still be in Houston I’m sure.

Maybe they’ll stand together before the game and sing “Waiting to Exhale”

Laker guys get so butt hurt when they get traded, it’s ridiculous.

It’s true that it’s the second time he’s left, so I can understand why people wonder why it’s such a big deal this time, and not last time. My memory isn’t perfect and I’m not going to look it up but here’s some context from a Lakers fan.

After LA got beat by an underdog Pistons team with tons of internal turmoil, there were major changes to LA’s roster. Shaq was gone, Horry was gone, Fox was gone. So Fisher getting trown in with all that change didn’t seem like a big deal.
When he came back to LA and won two more rings with Kobe it really cemented him as a Laker. So that’s why it’s different for me.
