Pau Gasol Sees ‘a Certain Level of Selfishness’ in Lakers’ Play

In addition to the relentless trade rumors, Pau Gasol is also unhappy with the Los Angeles Lakers’ play lately (which has resulted in two horrific losses to Detroit and Washington.) From NBA Maniacs (via BDL): “Kobe Bryant missed more shots in Washington’s comeback win (22) than Gasol and Andrew Bynum combined to take (they finished 12 of 19). And that Bryant missed 9 of 10 attempts in the fourth quarter in a fruitless attempt to fire his Lakers back into the game from the perimeter. Either way, the back-to-back Laker losses to Detroit and Washington leave the championship hopefuls in a bad way, and Gasol (again, through this Internet translator) can’t be happy. Here’s the quote: ‘(There is) lack of concentration, overconfidence and a certain level of selfishness, in general. I’m not a person or a selfish player, but we have to move the ball more, and we have to look further the team game, because we have enough talent to use different players,’ said an upset Gasol to the Catalan public radio.”

just tell it like it is, KOBE shoots too much

Any one have any ideas whom he might be referring to?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Say my name, say my name.

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Even Heller Keller could see that. It ’bout time somebody called out “Robert Horry, Jr.”

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

What a biggady b*tch. Come on son grow a pair instead of speaking indirectly. Who the hell else plays selfish besides Kobe?

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

something fishy about the translation: i’m not a person or a selfish player… then what r u pau

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

shout out to shock exchange for the hellen keller reference, amazing author

  • http://slamonline.com badnewsballer

Yea well maybe Pau should be selfish and start demanding the ball down low. Quit floating around 15 away ft from the basket.

really pau? grow some balls and talk to Mr: You Welcome.

  • KidCongo

    He wants out

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Wait, so Pau Gasol is not a person?

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

  • cardel

Is he supposed to say openly that Kobe is selfish? He is not a person nor is he stupid. At least until he gets traded, he has to keep forms. For now, it’s enough for him to state the obvious.

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Spot hot fiyah: Got the Shock Exchange all misty-eyed son. I gonna have to go to Target and buy me a Y-chromosome now.

  • Walk Like a Boss

Would anyone do Pau and Bynum for K love and Beasley? Pau would like to play with his fellow Spaniard…

  • burnt_chicken

is it weird that none of the people calling Pau a b*itch for speaking indirectly post under their own names?

  • Paul H

I thought Kobe was a synonym for selfishness at this stage.

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Pau’s comments were not “subliminal” at all … it’s obvious who he is talking about. The fact that he called him out – something nobody else in the Lakers organization has the heart to do – speaks volumes. Anybody who thinks Pau is a b*tch has not been paying attention. Shannon Brown tweeted some nonsense about Pau’s fiance and he made Brown disappear … real goons move in silence.

  • T-Money

pau gasol and mike brown are pretty good tap dancers.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Pau and goon should never be put together.

    2 words LOBE TRYANT !!! + ^^ tru dat ^^

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Maybe Pau and “magician” are more appropriate … he sure made Shannon Brown disappear.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Yea I get your point Shock. The Obedient Osterich sounds nice too.

La La Land is an emotional mess.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

    shots fired

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

Maybe Pau doubles as Marlo … Heard Shannon Brown found in one of the vacants in West Baltimore.

  • Walk Like a Boss

Would anyone do Pau and Bynum for K love and Beasley? Pau would like to play with his fellow Spaniard…

well burnt chicken MUBWAR stands 4 Mubarik Warsame from Ottawa Ontario Canada. So you can go ahead and tell that Spaniard ‘GOON’(lool) to come find me.

  • B-More Mike

Kobe Bryant!!! The reason the Cavs looked like world was because of Lebron’s all around play, getting others involved making them threats also. Ask yourself this question, if Lebron had Kobe team right now not 3 years ago right now he stays in Cleveland & wins chips. Kobe has turned Pau into half of what he was with selfish play!!

What’s Kobe’s trade value right now? What would you give up for Kobe Bryant?

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY

Kobe stepped up for Pau when they were tryna trade him, now he calls Kobe out for taking too many shots?? How long have you played in LA? You reallllly didnt know how the Kobe system worked? Either way, hope you got ur bag packed!

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

Kobe cant get traded. But we need to keep Pau n work out watever is bothering tha team whether its Mike Brown, Kobe’s shooting, etc

  • http://www.nesn.com/2012/02/kobe-bryant-says-hes-better-than-michael-jordan-second-to-wilt-chamberlain-as-best-nba-player-ever-v.html shutup

oh sheet MUBWAR dropped the government, reppin the providence of Ontario, I see you, said he got some maple syrup for that effeminate Spanish @SS. Sorry I know those are stereotypes but I just couldnt help myself.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

He’s not a person but he’s obviously right on this one.

  • http://slamonline.com Billy Sunday

sh*t just got real…. its about to go down!

  • http://dsjfkl.com Jukai

Hmmm… I think he may be talking about Steve Blake.

  • T-Money

Elliott Teaford: Mike Brown was especially critical of Kobe Bryant’s selection vs. WAS, so he said he had to apologize during film session on Thursday. about 19 minutes ago BAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Heals

LAL are last in the L in points at the rim, Mamba 17 for last 57, Mamba’s 22 missed shots are the most by any player in a single game so far. I dunno could be referring to anyone of his teammates…

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Say it with your chest!, big a** spaniard!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2012/03/laker-players-doubting-mike-brown/ bike

So let it be spoken. So let it be written. So let it be done. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera,…

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

    LOL @JT21

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

@T-money: let me clarify this, mike brown has to apologize to Kobe for being too critical of his shot selection? that’s priceless.
didn’t one other post mention that the lakers are averaging the fewest points in team history since the shot clock was introduced? that’s the bigger story: lakers’ offense has no bite.

  • tomtom

Wow, clearly directed at Kobe. Cold considering the guy came out publicly and had your back. I hope the Kyle Lowery deal goes through, it doesn’t make us auto-contenders but it make us better than we are. Also I want to see Pau try to carry a team, i think he has forgotten how difficult in can be from his days in Memphis.

  • T-Money

albie: he’s the same that’s grateful that lebron and now kobe let him coach them.

  • SonnyB

Kobe “says” his main goal & focus is to win another championship & match Jordan’s 6 rings… but truth be told, everyone & their mamas know his “real” goal this yr is get the scoring title! It’s so freakn obvious! If u watch the number of ridiculous shots he puts up, it’s almost disgusting to see. I’d hate to be his teammate this year… I feel for Pau.

Kobe’s tryin to put doubters to rest, that say he’s already past his prime & on his way down. He’s obviously got his own agenda this season.

With all that said… the only positive from this, is that Kobe’s on my fantasy team. Lol!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

i’m not sure how “I wish [Lakers] management would come out and either trade him or not trade him” means Kobe has Pau’s back. (taken from Slam’s posting: Kobe Bryant Wants Lakers to Make a Decision on Pau Gasol) you people are funny.

  • RunNGun

Breaking News: Pau Gasol is gone as of this tweet. He’s been traded.

  • http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7d8eeyp IAMORANGE4EVER

Did your Bulls make it happen, RunNGun?

  • Heals

For the record Kob didn’t get Pau’s back at all, he said if they’re gonna trade him do it now or don’t do it. Alotta folks got that twisted he wasn’t sticking up for Pau in the slightest…

  • Heals

My bad, albie was all over that and with the exact quote too…

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Pau’s probably gonna get traded today or tommorow.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHOLIDAY

@heals and @albe didnt kobe say at some point he would like for Pau to stay? Could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he said that at some point when addressing the Lakers and their attempts to trade Pau

  • RunNGun

If they did, your KNicks would sh!t bricks. Pau’s been linked to the Rockets, but why would they give up Scola and Lowry?

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

    He’s been through alot.
Shannon Brown exalting in the loins of Gasol’s woman.
    The trade rumors.
    Kobe punking him every game…

  • tomtom

albie.. It doesn’t. But if you read the quote in it’s entirety it clearly does.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

If the Lakers were to trade Kobe Bryant at this point in time, it would be the funniest occurance in NBA History.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com albie1kenobi

@KHOLIDAY and tomtom: i read the full quote, but that one sentence was the distilled essence of how he feels about Pau. if he REALLY has his back, he would have said that, instead of saying the trade rumor is affecting Pau’s play on the court and thus affecting the team. he wouldn’t have say the same thing if it was Fisher (if he has any trade value at all).

  • Heals

Mos def KH, but it came off a little hallow (to me) given what he said just before it. We all know they have 2 assets, and the GM doesn’t wanna move Drew unless it for DH12 or something stealthy we don’t know. So if something needs to get done that only leaves one option (I don’t agree), Pau. Let’s also remember this was right after an ugly loss to a team he has alotta enmity for (right? wasn’t this after the Phx loss?), so I’d be a hypocrite not to cut him some slack there…

  • nic

    Rhythm get pau out

  • robb

    OK but… what’s new?

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

shock exchange, people need to know about her

  • Justin G.

@tomtom…You say Pau’s forgotten what it’s like to carry a team but the point is Kobe doesn’t have to carry this team. He has two pretty reliable bigs he can go to when his shot isn’t falling. The greats get it done in other ways. They get to the foul line. They set up their teammates, they rebound. I remember Jordan going 3-18 against the Knicks in the ’93 playoffs game 3, but he finished with 21 points and a triple double. It was a blowout. You don’t always have to lead your team in scoring if it’s really about getting wins

  • tomtom

@justinG: so a team doesn’t need a leader? If guys get out of hand who do you think is the voice on that team?? Remember Bynum is still only 24 with about 3 full seasons under his belt in reality. My point, and i say it all the time, is that Pau has an easy ride, he can play badly and go under the radar and have everyone blame Kobe or even Bynum, but if he plays well he gets told he is the best PF in the world. He gets superstar money and superstar treatment, but a lot less pressure than most (less the trade talks) and he doesn’t bring it every night, unlike that selfish guy he is talking about

  • tomtom

Albie..matter of opinion i suppose, what about last night, does this sound like he has Pau’s back enough?? “I adore Pau,” Bryant said. “So it’s tough to see him go through this (stuff). … I wish I could do something. It’s tough.”.

  • Harlem_World

Kobe Bryant is gun slinging at an all-time high this year and he’s firing blanks. He’s got to be top 5 worst team mates of all time. He’s selfish beyond belief and he knows the Lakers don’t have enough to win it all so he is racking stats against his ‘legacy’ right now. His arrogance and selfishness are disgusting. Real talk.

  • http://hoopshirts.com hoop shirts

kobe and all need to give gasol & bynam the ball more.

bottom line, even if they are struggling.

  • ClydeSays

He’s just figuring this out now? Even when Jax was on the bench, Kobe would just go nuts sometimes. Now with Mike Brown & a fading chance to contend? Forget it. He’s just going to do what he feels like doing…

  • DukeFromDeep

    “I’m not a person”…. what!, speak English Euro-trash!!

  • trueballer4life

trade gaosol and bynum for howard already with draft some picks

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Anynody who thinks if Bynum and Gasol get the ball more down low, will help this team win a title or compete are clueless. Go watch all of the Laker games, not just the TV games, they get pushed off the block, don’t establish good post positions, overcrowd the lanes and don’t play with a chip on their shoulder. Kobe is doing whatever he thinks can help them win. THATS CALL EFFORT. Pau or Bynum need to need to be traded for something. BOOK IT

  • The Worm

Kobe isn’t getting enough help….these twin towers need to step up, when they have the ball.
    Stop whyning

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com K.Holiday

@tomtom @albe @heals …. I feel where all of you guys are coming from
