Cavs Willing to Trade Three Picks to Get Bobcats’ No. 2 Pick?

Thursday’s NBA Draft looks like it could be one of the wildest in recent memory, as teams up and down the Draft board are looking to make moves. The wheeling and dealing may all start at the top, too, as a report out of Cleveland suggests that the Cavaliers are looking to leapfrog the Washington Wizards and lock up the No. 2 pick currently held by the Charlotte Bobcats, according to John Telich of Fox 8 Cleveland. In order to do so, the Cavs might be willing to part with the rest of their Draft picks this year—though it’s still unclear who the player is they are targeting at No. 2, with possibilities including Bradley Beal and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

This might be a good move depending on who they choose. If they don’t choose wisely it will be a wasted trade.

^especially considering u can still get good value at 24, probably even 34

    Yeah… True

The Cavs clearly want Bradley Beal after the Wizards/Hornets trade all but guaranteed Beal going to Washington.

A backcourt of Kyrie Irving and Brad Beal or Kidd-Gilchrist is what they are thinking. Not bad, not bad at all.

Not a bad deal, get the number 2 pick and give MJ three draft picks to screw up. Good job Cleveland if it happens

Exactly spit and with the draft being the deepest it’s been in a while having those 3 first round picks might prove to be a blessing.

Cavs could turn out to be Thunder 2.0 in a few years if they pick right.

What is Mike waitin on …TRob/Barton/MilesPlumlee good draft for me with the 4,24,n34 pick…but i guess it makes too much sense

    Do it, MJ!

They have 2 of the top 24 picks. Are you telling me the #2 spot is that critical? Beal, MKG or Thompson can be available. IDK if I would make this move for 2 spots up in the draft. But then again, thats why im not the GM. Good luck to Kyries new teammate.

  • Ldub

    sorry not thompson…robinson

  • TV63

No This is plain stupid. Go with probablity here. Chances far greater with numbers than putting all your eggs in 1 basket and that might not turn out. But leave it to Cleveland to do the stupid move yet again.

Beal is not worth both 1st round picks, plus a 2nd rounder. The Cavs need help, in a major way. There are other shooters in this draft. Don’t get stuck on Beal. Chris Grant, do not do this! Keep #24.

If I’m MJ and “want more draft picks,” I’d take this trade and run.

Seems like a no brainer to me. Its not like the #2 pick is whats gonna put the Cats over the top. Take the 3 picks, get a lottery talent and 2 potential steals or at least glue guys.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Take Barnes at #4..then get Henson/Leonard and a shooter!!

  • Shem

Beal is no doubt going at 3. Cavs are picking 4th. Cavs want Beal. How do people not understand this trade? Its beneficial to both teams. Charlotte stockpiles picks and still gets the player they want, Barnes, without reaching for him as much as they would at 2. Cleveland becomes an instant playoff contender.

  • Ldub

Shem….Beal hasnt laced up his sneaks for one game in the pros. You dont know how he is going to turn out. What type of chemistry he will have…or what affect he will have in an NBA game. Remember all these dudes did this against other “college” players. People put too much expectations on kids before they have step foot on an NBA court for an NBA team. Sure Beal has potential…but who doesnt? And to say they become an instant playoff contender because of Beal is totally inaccurate. Basically because of all the reasons Ive already stated…no need to repeat myself again.

Pull the trigger Jordan, pull it and speed away. This is too easy of a trade to do.

  • jp

I’d rather have Gilchrist, who has an all around better game. Both solid picks though. Cavs have a good young piece wether they trade or not.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Keep It Real

2012 draft so deep. MJ needs to pull the trigger on this. Bobcats still end up w/ harrison barnes or MKG or Robinson.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

This is all for Bradley Beal. Which means Charlotte will get one of the two guys they would have got anyway. MKG or Robinson. So this is a no brainier if it’s true.

  • LA Huey

I’d do it if I’m the Cavs and I’m really confident in the #2. You can find value in the last 1st round or early 2nd round but it’s tougher to get than high in the lottery.

    Very insightful T-Ray.

  • Esmooth

Everyone here has very insightful opinions but hands down this is a big gamble.Beal is another unpolish version of eric gordon.Hes supposely a inch taller at 6’4 while Eric gordon is 6’3.Eric is more explosive and has a better jumpshot.Beal is younger at 18 and could become better but everyone dont forget Eric Gordon is 23.Thats not much far apart. But hands down Cleveland needs a good overall player like Barnes much like luol deng who cant help you with your rebounding, points, and at 6’8 nba body can defend multiple position. Also you could steal a doron lamb, will barton, john jenkins, hollis thompson, william burford who has the potiental to put up exact numbers like beal maybe better. They have to stop stressing one player and worry about the whole structure of the team.Cavs still have no post game, scorer, need defenders on the perimeter, and versatile players.People forget monta ellis, gilbert arenas, micheal redd all 2nd rounders sgs who has productive years in the nba and at points is for monta ellis and was for redd and arenas consider top sgs in the nba. They should stick with 3 picks to help those flaws

  • mask

    dont do it.

  • Darryl Moore Sr.

Chris, do your damn job and keep all your picks and hope you can hit on two of them and if your real lucky maybe three. I Think there are 4 or 5 can’t miss players. We are not the heat or lakers we need good players!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://stuff Ugh

Bet it doesn’t happen. Seeing how the 2-7 picks are still unpredictable by most people, it would make more sense for the Cavs to draft whoever they can and trade for whoever it was they wanted if they couldn’t grab them.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I think this would be a real coup (for the cats) if they get 3 ‘character’ guys with those picks… someone earlier mentioned ‘glue-guys’ and that works well. Guys that will pass, rebound and defend and be “clean-image” guys in the media and in the locker room… ^_^

I would LOVE to see the Cavs hold onto those picks because they cold develop some real gems from this draft this year.

  • Frank

After Davis there are four, maybe five, guys who are all on the exact same tier of potential. And the Cavs are really that worried about trading away assets just to move up two spots? And even worse, most Cavs fans aren’t crucifying them for this?
