Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Interested in Ramon Sessions

With Jason Kidd on his way to New York, and Steve Nash LA-bound, the Dallas Mavericks have reportedly turned their attention on free agent point guard Ramon Sessions. From ESPN: “The Dallas Mavericks, in the aftermath of Thursday’s stunning departure of point guard Jason Kidd, have reached out for a second time to Ramon Sessions, this time with a starting job to pitch. A source close to the situation said the Mavs initially contacted Sessions’ representatives prior to Kidd opting to pass on a three-year, $9 million offer from Dallas and instead agreeing to a similar deal to join the New York Knicks. After Kidd reached his decision to move on, the Mavs again reached out to Sessions, the 26-year-old point guard that was traded from Cleveland to the Lakers at the trade deadline last season. Sessions, the source said, is seeking a starting job and security. The source said another round of talks with the Mavs are set for Friday. Sessions opted out of the final year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent and was removed from the Lakers’ plan when they completed a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns for two-time MVP Steve Nash.”

I just posted this in the JKidd thread, but why aren’t the Mavs looking at Aaron Brooks? He is available, no?

What are their other options really? Randy Foye, Kirk Hinrich or Aaron Brooks (poss going to Houston). Why don’t they just roll the dice and sign Gilbert Arenas and AI?

Plan A: Deron, Plan B: Nash, Plan C: Lin, Plan D: Kidd, Plan E: Sessions, Plan F: Felton?

“Interested” or no other choice? Tough season ahead for Dirk..

Sessions is a good start. With all the cap space Dallas has now, they should pursue Cayman,Mayo, young SF, Arenas as back up pg and veteran wisdom. I’d look into Lopez and Humphries. You are still under the salary cap. Dallas needs to pick up steam today. I would also see if I could get Darell Arthur from Memphis. He is from Dallas. Dude has skills.
    Down but not out.

I would also look at getting Shane Williams from Portland. This coach knows him well. Do you want to win or hold a grudge? Williams has the touch. He can play behind Dirk.

@mary I’m with you. They just need to start making some moves.

Jose Calderon would be the best option, with Lowry going to Toronto

Trade away some picks and get it done.

Aaron Brooks back in the NBA??

If I were Dallas, I’d rather pick Hinrich. He’s not the same as the Captain Kirk in Chicago, but he still can ball plus he plays exceptional defense.

  • William

Wow. I would like to see Dallas do something. How about Hinrich? How about somebody that will be a decent team.

Dallas gonna be solid taking the 10th seed

Jarryd Bayliss Allen Iverson and Ramon Sessions. I would settle for that combination. . They give up a truck load to big back courts but all three want to prove they belong in the league. If Ramon gets back to multiple 20 assist games he’ll look the business.
