Hakeem Olajuwon Wants to Work on Serge Ibaka’s Offensive Game

The NBA’s low-post Yoda, Hakeem Olajuwon, has reached out to the OKC Thunder about tutoring big man Serge Ibaka on the block. Per the Oklahoman: “Olajuwon’s representatives contacted [head coach Scott Brooks], who teamed with the former Rockets star, via text on Tuesday. Olajuwon originally expressed his interest in working with Ibaka to Fox Sports last month, saying the Thunder’s runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year ‘needs it.’ Brooks on Tuesday said that he loves the idea. ‘I played with Hakeem for three years,’ Brooks said of his stint with Olajuwon and the Rockets from 1992-95. ‘He’s one of the best to ever play the game. Anytime you can get players that played at a high level that can share their insight, you have to take advantage of it.’ Ibaka has a small window of availability this summer. He will compete for Spain in the London Olympics, which run from July 27 through August 12. It’s unclear what Ibaka’s plans are beyond that. Typically, many Thunder players reconvene in Oklahoma City several weeks prior to the start of training camp to begin voluntary workouts as a team. Ibaka has gotten more comfortable and confident on the offensive end every year he’s been in the NBA. In his third season, Ibaka averaged 9.1 points on 53.5 percent shooting as the fourth option behind Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. But Brooks said after the season that Ibaka can be even better offensively.”

Ibaka with a couple of post moves would mean an automatic three peat for the Thunder.

it would address their low post scoring woes which was a major reason why miami was able to play bosh at 5 and keep battier on the court at the same time. how effin old are you guys?

Serge mid range good …need low post moves he should be a Allstate next year… Help Perkins sorry ass off.

  • chris

He should work with Blake griffin as well that would help him greatly in my opinion

Old enough to know that low post scoring isn’t the only reason they lost in the finals.

Hakeem also wants to work with Javale. He’s sure a drop step and a sky hook would make him a top 5 interior presence.

If Ibaka turns down this offer he deserves to continue putting up paltry offensive numbers.

The more Serge and Harden improve, the more OKC knows they’ll have to trade one of them.

Good thing I checked, I almost posted as TadONE, good job SLAM. Hakeem should open a school – Dream Shake Academy. I’m sure he’d make good money on that. I wouldn’t go, but I’d definitely at least buy a tshirt.

i wish hakeem would commit to doing this fulltime with some of the garbage in the post around the league… like DwightHoward; went and seen him for a summer..FOOL, I wouldve moved Olajuwon into house and made it his until Ive learned every move with the same agility. fk dat

Hakeem! Polishing up the games of players all around the league. He must be a bit embarrassed that there are so many big men in the NBA who do not realize their full potential. Serge with an improved post game… sounds like a headache. The best teams are getting better and better.

@tyquez pretty sure he is already allstate since there is only one pro team in oklahoma

  • Heals

Alex, it’d be an awesome achievement if he developed a reliable post-game in those 3 years (tough to add things when your game team goes deep in the playoffs and you play internationally during summers as well), let alone won the chip each of those years…

  • Yesse

It would be awesome to see Ibaka with the same post moves as Hakeem.

As a Thunder fan this is exciting as hell! If Serge can get some low post moves it just gives us that extra step to championships

I don’t know about Ibaka, but Hakeem should be calling Blake Griffin’s folks. Hakeem worked with Kobe and made him the smoothest post up SG in the league. Blake, you need to work with the dream. Your post up game is 0
