Lakers, Magic, Rockets Discussing Trade Involving Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum

Until Dwight Howard is finally shipped away from Orlando, you can expect to hear of a new trade rumor involving the big fella approximately every two hours or so (if not more frequently.) Here’s the latest bit of gossip, via Hoopsworld: “… there have been preliminary discussions between the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets that would involve sending Andrew Bynum to the Rockets, Howard to the Lakers and a number of first-round picks, prospects and significant cap relief to the Magic. The Magic are not necessarily in love with the idea of giving either Bynum or Brook Lopez a sizable, long-term commitment as they go through a major roster overhaul. Draft picks and prospects, a la the Denver Nuggets’ return on Carmelo Anthony, is said to be more appealing to Orlando. The Rockets have no assurance from Howard that he’d re-sign there and while they might be willing to take that risk, Bynum has privately expressed a willingness to be in Houston long-term. Houston has a tremendous haul of young, cheap players to offer as well as multiple draft picks. They also have a passing interest in Ramon Sessions, as the Lakers do in Courtney Lee. L.A. has some confidence that Howard would eventually re-sign with the Lakers but a major qualm is, to date, Howard has resisted such a move. Additionally, Los Angeles wants to make sure Howard’s back is truly healthy. [...] Just as the Brooklyn conversation lingered and took many unexpected turns, there’s nothing said to be imminent between the Lakers, Rockets and Magic. However, it is one of many possible paths as the Magic try to step into their future post-Howard.”

If Nash didn’t join the Lakers I wouldn’t want Dwight over Bynum, but with Nash… I really want to see Dwight in Gold and Purple throwing down lobs.

I think I’d take Dwight over Bynum either way. Bynum’s first healthy year + Dwight’s first unhealthy year = buy low, sell high.

make it happen mitch! and jimmy.

This three team trade sounds better than the Nets but who will take the contract of Chris Duhon or Hedo?? I find it comical that everyone wants to disrespect Dwight. If he doesn’t want to go to Lakers so be it not everyone wants to wear gold and purple. I would prefer the Nets build your own legacy and start with the Nets

  • Sundance

    Lakers suck

this is going to be my status on facebook.
i really love relaying news to my friends who don’t go to SLAM.

Howard better sign that extension to join the greatest franchise in NBA History.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more tired of a story in my life. Do guys like Howard and Melo – and their management teams – ever consider that the amount of goodwill they’re squandering hugely damages their marketability? That the very attempt to reach a bigger market and, in turn, be more marketable is actually hurting their marketability overall?

  • vilmar

Dagger how about you go marketability yourself!!!!

  • djjeremiahj

    re dagger:
The Adidas contract worth $400M gives howard about 400 million reasons to want to go to the Nets. Add another $100M with a 5 year deal. Do you really think that dwight cares about goodwill?

So basically Kobe will go ahead and follow LBJ legacy wise? Hey I’m a supporter!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So Houston is gutting its team for Andrew Bynum? Yeah, no possible problems with that course.

  • riggs

    not gonna happen.

  • Mvpitzki

@Seed, I didnt read anything about Dwight going to the Celtics(17 championships says it all)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Red

@mvp stop man you can’t be serious and think celtics have a greater history than the Lakers.

  • Mvpitzki

Lakers fans always throw the number of rings they got when they’re arguing against anyone whose team dont have many or any rings but since they know the celtics have more they try to throw other excuses. Greatness is measured by accomplishments and theres no bigger accomplishment than championships which the celtics hold more. Just like the Kobe Lebron debate, the first thing everyone mentions is championships so thats undebatable

  • Conor

So what will Boston have left once Los Angeles matches their tally?

  • GC

^ I hope everyone realizes the Los Angeles Lakers specifically have 11 championships, and the Minny Lakers have 5.

For example, let’s say the LA Lakers moved to Vegas. Now the “Vegas Lakers” have 16 championships??

  • Jake

Lob city, lob lob city biiiiitch. I’d still rather have Bynum though.

  • http://Worldstarhiphop.com The base

If I were Magic GM, I’d be working with Chicago to see what I could get…. Luol Deng, Boozer, Gibson for Dwight, hedo

    Or possibly timberwolves
Klove, nikolas pelvocic, chase for Dwight

    Or Memphis
Rudy gay, gasol, tony Allen for Dwight and hedo

I don’t see why magic are so bent on trying to put Dwight in a place where he’ll do contract extension. I know other teams will trade if Dwight does, but I’m the magic I’ll go to all other teams and see what I can get.

Raptors have a lot to offer… Demar, bargnani. Ross, calderon and in coming center… For Dwight and hedo

    Dear, Houston.
    Please do not do this.
    A Rockets fan.
(I truly do not care how ‘good’ the Rockets become because of said-trade. I detest Bynum.)

  • goldenhynes

Bynum should be traded he is very inconsistent an immature, we don’t know when this kid matures….he is the Laker’s problem and not Pau Gasol…

  • goldenhynes

Bynum must be traded , he is the Laker’s problem, he is not consistent on his play and we don’t know when this kid will mature. trade this kid!!!!

  • Sundance

    Clippers all day everyday

  • Dungeon Family

@Red No he wouldn’t be Following because unlike Lebron HE’s not leaving his team to go to another man’s team

@Sundance Until the Clippers can win the Pacific Division Sit cho Lame a$$ down

  • Sundance

    @Dungeon , the Championship is ours……

  • bwill88

@sundance… win a division title before you start boasting.

  • james

as a Magic fan.. I would like to get the picks that Houston got in this draft.. if not the 3 1st round, 2 is ok..and some future picks..

    plss trade Howard away

  • LLC#12

I liked how dungeon family and zogs1 comments rhymed, very nice…I don’t want Dwight to go anywhere that he isn’t happy, just in case that leads to another season of whinging and moaning

  • Fresh Boirdee

After all of this it would be hilarious if Dwight stays in Orlando.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Even if Howard does not sign the extension with Lakers, they should pull the trade for Howard. I truly believe Bynum is not signing back with LA, because he feels disrespected and thinks he is better than what he is or he will make the Lakers pay him Kobe numbers. Lakers are in win/win situation to me. If Howard does not resign, then we at least had a better chance at ring this year and the money for him, we can use for another center in the future. Lakers would be Howard’s team in 3 to 4 years and everyone wants to go to LA to be with the best center in the NBA. Then Howard could build his legacy as a great Laker center and has the opportunity to get more rings than Shaq in an LA uniform. Lakers should do it, mainly because Howard plays DEFENSE and that’s what the Lakers lack in the middle.

  • Donte

1st off… You’ re a pure retard if you think bynum is better than dwight in any way shadow form or fashion.
2nd… Why would houston do this trade? For a big who basically hasn’t completed an entire season until just now (i think)?
Mchale Is on the hot seat with this one… regret is on the back end of this one.

  • http://nba.com GP23

    No way is happening.

Man, I really don’t want to see Dwight on the Lakers. The guy is such a whining b!tch, he’d soon be complaining that he is not receiving enough touches (which will obviously happen, since KB and Gasol are better offensive players than him), that he is not the leader of the team, that he doesn’t receive the ball in crunch time (what didn’t happen even in Orlando, because of his shaky offensive game and poor freethrow shooting).
So, Mitch, please, stay with Bynum and strenghten the bench. The Lakers will be much better this way.

IT’ either d12 or nothing..Cause Bynum feels disrespected of always being in trade speculations, so even if they resign him he not got gonna be motivated to play. Which we have seen this year, kid wants to shoot 3′s. SO lala land is in a pickle its go for the gust now or its over cause the OKC kids are just getting better and Lobcity are in there rear-view…

  • Marc

Bynum is the best talent that Orlando can take in the market. The Nets offer is Brook Lopez and late first round picks. Besides that, if they trade him to Nets there will be another powerhouse that break the spirit of the new CBA agreement. The Lakers have his big three (Kobe, Pau, Bynum) and with Howard will be the same, with a bit of improvement: Bynum at Orlando is a 26 points 12 rebounds 2 blocks player.

  • Sérgio

@ Marc, Bynum will never average 26 points per game. He is playin well, averaging 18 ppg and all, but don’t forget that defenses are focused on Kobe and, to a lesse extent, on Gasol. Like T-Money said above, Bynum has no clu on how to deal with double teams. Look at the games that LA played without KB, when he was injured: Bynum FG% was horrible, in the 35-40% range. Now imagine with him being the main option on offense…

  • Marc

He had some poor shooting nights but the team had a good record without Kobe. Also he had some monster nights. 30 boards versus Spurs for example. By the way, a couple of games don’t mean nothing at all. His shooting percentage was excellent last season .558 and he is not a selfish player. I think is not complicated in this league put 26 points a game for a 7 footer with fundamentals and good percentage at free throw line. At Orlando and as a main option he will be more confident and will have more touches, a lot of more touches. At LA all the players except Kobe put numbers below his talents. Also Bynum and Gasol don’t connect very well, they slow down each other. I have no doubt that he is a 26p 12r if he is healthy and has some talent around.
