Washington Wizards to Amnesty Andray Blatche?

The horrific Andray Blatche Experiment might soon be coming to an end in Washington, as the Wizards reportedly contemplate using the amnesty clause on Blatche. Per the WaPo: “The Wizards have until July 17 to waive Andray Blatche under the one-time amnesty provision, and the team is seriously considering parting ways with the 6-foot-11 forward, according to two league sources. One person with knowledge of the situation said that there is a ‘fair’ chance that the Wizards would give Blatche the remaining $23 million on his contract. Another source said the organization remained ‘hopeful’ that the two sides could part ways. Cutting Blatche would remove his salary from the cap — reducing the payroll by nearly $7 million next season — but he would still receive all of his money. Blatche signed a three-year, $28-million extension in September 2010 that would keep him with the team through 2014-15. But he has had two disappointing seasons, filled with uneven play on the court and questionable decisions away from the court. He regressed for the first time in his career last season, when he averaged just 8.5 points and was sent home to spend the final month improving his conditioning. Blatche has worked out in Houston with John Lucas, but declined to comment when reached by phone recently. The Wizards continue to pursue trade options, but that is considered a longshot after Blatche attracted little to no attention at the trade deadline or around the time of the NBA draft.”

dear Bulls pls. get this guy!!!!

  • thebugg

He should go play overseas in Australia. Preferably for my local division 3 domestic team. We could really use him.

  • Fat Lever

Is amnestying enough? If I were the Wiz, I wouldnt mind having a Calipari done, i.e. vacating all known records of his time with the Wiz.

  • dsleepy

    FINALLY

I wonder how he feels knowing that one of the worst teams in the NBA is thinking about amnestying you… Cant be good for him mentally. Wonder if this will flip on the switch for Blatche.

  • FLIGHT 9 is dumb

Yes Bulls please get him. You don’t have enough trouble with an injured superstar add a guy that wont play hard and will get arrested for solicitation.

@KHoliday – nah, Blatche is probably thinking more along the lines of “wait, so if they amnesty me, I get all of my money now instead of later?! Awesome!”

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com Kholiday

@Hursty LOL, you’re probably right! Sad, but true!

Make it happen, Pat Riley. Think about what a move to Miami would do for Andre’s career!

  • LP

@Flight 9 – are you insane? you can’t be a bulls fan wanting Andray Blatche on the team, bro……have you seen this guy play the last 2 years?????? he a portly slouch…

  • TheWhiteMarkPrice

What does Abe got to say bout this? I say give him his $ and put him ob a plane to Turkey. This move will single-handedly end the knucklehead problem in DC. Abe wanted this to happen in Feb. This guy is cabbage.

  • CDaTyrant

Its been a long time coming.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Duncan Donuts to pick him up in free agency.

  • http://www.slamonline.com TADOne

He’s a lazy, one dimensional player. Also a rotten apple in the locker room. If any team signs him, it will be for a minimum contract.

  • Mas

    Money+Now=Awesome! Good Job. Good Effort.

  • LA Huey

I hope Charlotte signs him. The LOLcats have to step up this year and become the NBA’s most hilariously bad team since the Wizards broke up the Young-Blatche-McGee triumvirate.

i love that when he was asked about how his conditioning/weight loss was going he answered that he cut his hair

  • Basketball_iQ

its ashame how everybody wants everybody..
chi fans: oh please sign him
atl fans, miami, orl: sign him
This dude is trash-trizzle, i thought he was on to something but he let the lockout destroy him.

  • Heals

For sake of comic relief I hope this guys last 10 more years in The L. Anytime there’s some info about him on here I can’t wait to see what comments follow. You guys never disappoint when it comes to Dray…

  • bike

I think with the right coach and the right system he could easily blossum into a .2/.1/.002 guy.

  • da real

This guy is a loser who is wasting his unique talent. He should be out of the league. Nobody expects him to be an All-Star, just bring it night in and night out. If you dont have the love anymore GTFOH with all your stolen money and keep it moving. If LeBron loses the love I might care, but this guy is not an exceptional player even if he does go hard. Harsh, but true

“…But he has had two disappointing seasons, filled with uneven play on the court and questionable decisions away from the court…”

Do you call 16.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg in 2010-2011 in his first season as a starter disappointing? Yes, 2011-12 was disappointing, but it was primarily the result of a series of leg injuries that caused Blatche to not be able to play, practice or even workout for several weeks. That led to his conditioning problem and his inability to compete at the NBA level.

It’s unbelievable that Blatche was a Wizards hero until he signed a contract extension that would pay him $35M over 5 years. Then the jealous haters came out of their holes to attack. In the 50+ years that I have been involved with basketball, I have never seen so few cause such a commotion over one player.

  • TomD

The level of insight here is astounding:

Amnesty would not give him all his remaining $ at once. It would be paid as stipulated in the contract.

I assume one of you who refers to “Abe” means the LATE Abe Pollin. You are really on top of your game. The man died in November 2009.

“…rotten apple in the locker room…” – How the hell would you know that? Are you associated with the Wizards? If you were, you’d know that nothing is further from the truth.
