New York Knicks Signed JR Smith’s Brother Chris Smith

Chris Smith, the younger brother of JR Smith, signed a deal with the Knicks today. Per the NY Times: “Marc Cornstein, Smith’s agent, declined to disclose the details of the deal, but it is probably a one-year, nonguaranteed contract. ‘We’re thrilled with the deal,’ Cornstein said. ‘Chris is excited about signing his first N.B.A. contract and playing next to his brother.’ Smith was the first one to let Knicks fans know he was joining his brother. He announced the signing on his Twitter account by posting a photo of himself signing the contract while sitting next to General Manager Glen Grunwald. Smith will get his chance to make the roster when training camp begins in early October. The odds will be against him. The Knicks already have seven guards on their roster. Cornstein said one advantage Smith has is his brother. J. R. Smith should help his brother learn Coach Mike Woodson’s system and how to get prepared for training camp.”

Is learning an offence from JR Smith really an advantage ?

“Run up the court as fast you can .. then launch a shot before you hit the 3 point line”

Got excited for a minute when I kept reading the headline as “Craig Smith”. You know bball news is slow when you get excited about a non-mention of Craig Smith.

  • Björn Atli

Chris Smith is the Charlie Murphy of bball.

@ The Philosopher – nice try junior, but his name is Ed “Booger” Smith. And Kenny’s Kings was about the worst-best team I’ve seen in a while. Imagine them against some of the AAU teams of the time..massacre.

Reminds me of when the Kings had Ron Artest’s brother play on their summer league team a while back. Daniel Artest was a 310 pound point guard. Picture him guarding a young CP3.

In other news, the Bulls sign Brian Scalabrine’s basterd nephew’s 3rd cousin from New Hampshire to a 3 day contract for $82.

  • MikeC.

@Lake – I’d take that offer just for the practice jersey.

    Ed Smith, huh?
You mean, the Ed Smith that I’ve shouted out on this site plenty of times?
    Oh.
And I think I was thinking of Charles Smith.
    I’ll be honest… I forgot the kid’s name.
