Philadelphia 76ers Reportedly Have Not Spoken With Andrew Bynum

The Philadelphia 76ers got a major upgrade at the center position, adding 7-footer Andrew Bynum to their young, developing core. But reports indicate the Sixers pulled the trigger in last night’s blockbuster deal without any assurances about Bynum’s future in Philly. Bynum is scheduled to be a free agent in 2013, and it remains to been seen how he’ll approach his new home. More details, via ESPN.com: “Philadelphia has not spoken to Bynum or his representatives, and has no assurances he will sign a long-term extension with the team. ‘The Sixers are willing to take a shot (without Bynum’s commitment),’ one source said. Although Bynum signing an extension with the 76ers is not out of the question, according to a source, his stance all summer has been he only will sign an extension with the Lakers. Bynum, who grew up about an hour away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J., could sign a three-year, $60 million extension this season or wait to become a free agent after the season and be eligible for a five-year, $102 million deal.”

If he doesn’t resign, it’s still worth the risk. We have been trying to trade iggy for a long time and getting bynum back is awesome. I think that he will remain a sixer long term. Welcome home!

I was hoping Bynum could have went to Cleveland with Irving. That would have been a good young duo. 76ers will be top 5 team in the East and you don’t want to see them in the 1st round of the playoffs.

This trade officially makes sense for nobody except the lakers.
Nuggets: get iguodala at sf when they already have 2 capable sf in Gallinari and chandler
Sixers: giving up iguodala for bynum is okay, but also giving up iguodalas young successor at the position in harkless makes little sense
Magic: accepted a deal whose return of players looks not nearly as good as what they would get from the nets, also no draft picks involved? Wtf

@Sanity, Iggy will play SG in Denver. And from what I’ve read, Magic will get 1st roun picks from all teams involved. But I still think the Magic made a big mistake. Houston and Jersey had better offers.

@niQ just heard about those draft picks, all 3 protected. Makes more sense now that ai would play sg even though that would require him to play a lot more off the ball, not really his strength. But the more I look at this trade the more I can’t believe how crappy it is for the magic. Reminds me of how the timberwolves got absolutely nothing in return when they shipped kg to the celtics

Picks don’t need protection, none of them will be lottery picks. Orlando will be in the lottery this year for sure.

  • JRAG

The Timberwolves got Al Jefferson for KG. Jefferson was putting up 20 and 10 when the twolves acquired him. Get your facts straight!

Why were Philly so eager to get rid of iggy?

  • pposse

i really hope orlando gets shafted in the next lottery. They give up Dwight for nothing pretty much, they do not deserve a top 4 pick for stupidity. Plus they are going to purposely tank this season (illegal, even tho it is a common practice). I really hope they get like the #6 pick.

Cuz Iggy doesn’t push them over the top. An elite center like Bynum does (assuming he stays healthy!). Plus the sixers don’t need to talk to Bynum. He will have $102 million reasons to say yes. And if I was Bynum with his balky knees, I’d take it in a heartbeat. He’s good for max a couple more years before he slows down. He’s already kind of slow. Gonna be like Sabonis without the passing and shooting skill.

When Shaq left we (Orlando) had Penny, Nick, Ho Grant, 3d even Seikley – who do we have now???? – Nelson, Glen fking Davis and Turkoglu!!!!!

@dan lmfaoooooo!….iim from Philly, and we had to get rid of iggy cuz his contract was too big…he is a great 2nd option but u can’t have $60 million dollar player averaging like 15 points…we shoulda thru Elton brands big ass contract in there too
