Tracy McGrady Working Out for Spurs, Knicks

Tracy McGrady may be 33 years old, but he still believes he can be a useful asset to a competitive team, and there seems to be some mutual interest within a couple of franchises. According to Yahoo! Sports, T-Mac has already worked out for the San Antonio Spurs, and he’ll shortly be doing the same for the New York Knicks. More details: “Still searching for an NBA franchise willing to guarantee a contract for next season, seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady worked out for the San Antonio Spurs this week at the team’s practice facility, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Tracy McGrady averaged 5.2 points and three assists with the Hawks last season. Next up for McGrady on Thursday is a workout for the New York Knicks, league sources said. Time is running out for the 33-year-old McGrady to secure a guaranteed contract for the season. Sources say he will likely have to choose between accepting a “make-good” training-camp invite or going overseas – perhaps to China.”

He can still pass and make plays. His athleticism is gone, but he can still contribute with his passing game.

    Better than Jerry Stackhouse.

Why the hell not San Antonio? Sign him. Maybe he could tutor Kawhi Leonard too, help him get better offensively

cmon, fuk china – some contender needs to sign him.. smh @ no love for ex-superstars… word to AI

  • qwerty

hope spurs sign him he could still contribute even with limited minutes. and with coach pop and co. they will find a way for him to do his stuff

  • spit hot fiyah

That is not saying a lot at this point. Who rememberss his firstt game as a knick? He killed that game

C’mon Tracy, time to hang it up man. You are better than this. You were a great player and had a great career, your body just let you down a little early. Pursue something else other than riding the pine and putting up puny stats. And don’t sign with the Knicks whatever you do.

hope he goes to spurs so kb can drop 40 on him 4 times this year…book it!

There’s a lot of teams that are missing a starting SF that T-Mac should sign with like the Cavs, Bucks, Hornets, and the Jazz.

Please don’t let the Spurs sign him. Thats the one gripe I have about the Spurs; sometimes they sign older guys and then it drags their bench down.

  • CubicleWorker

Sure sign McGrady, then the knicks will be the 2005 All-star teams less everybody who’s still relevant

  • Yusaf

I like Tracy game, always. He would act so sleepily but then drive dagger into heart of opposition, deeply.

  • Jerome

Michael Jordan is going to be a worse coach than he is a GM … if in fact he does end up coaching.

  • Juicy

The Spurs are gonna sign him.. still got the sting of those 13 points in 35 seconds

  • PippenAintEasy

Man, if Leonard got better offensively, say hello to the future All Star of the San Antonio Spurs.

  • Hursty

McGrady still had stretches with the Hawks last year, where he looked relatively solid. Definitely not a star, or a dominate player anymore. However, he had 1 game vs Boston in the playoffs where he had like 10 pts, and a bunch of boards and some assists in a quarter. (It’s on youtube somewhere if you want to see it)… then he rolled his ankle on a 3.
I’d be very happy if he was with the Spurs!

Something about t-mac pl aying for the spurs, for coach pop, with timmy, manu and tony, has me excited.

  • Rainman

Dude can actually play pg for a team. remember his spot duties as a starting pg for detroit? This dude averaged 3 assists last year in very limited minutes too.

  • Kid Viscious

hahahaha i still watch that on YouTube

  • robb

    get him Lakers

First off McGrady got by on athleticism mainly, whether it was his speed and leaping ability at his size, or whatever, after his natural gifts were gone his production dropped so dramatically; it’s hard to believe they are the same player; that being said there are enough veterans for Leonard to learn from, he can learn to post from Duncan, score from Ginobili or run an offense from Parker, plus he has arguably the best coach in basketball today, the Spurs do not however need another hobbled wing player with slow feet on defense that lacks the ability to keep up with the young legs of the ever evolving NBA. Oh, BTW anything McGrady can contribute can be gotten from Captain Jack.

Dude will be an all-star in the future; or at least a bubble all-star (LO style)

Ahhaha. Kobe dropping 40 on McGrady. Like that happened often. Injuries derailed TMac. He was 10X the offensive weapon KB is.. easy. Prime Mac was a thing of beauty.. I can’t say that about Bryant for more than a quarter.. let alone a game… let alone a season (McGrady 2003/4).

  • Drig

Wait what??? 10X the weapon KB was in his prime??? KB ’06 > TMac ’03. Hell, KB’03 had a similar season to TMac ’03. Almost identical stats. And as far as I know, KB was lighting it up at a similar rate to TMac. The only problem was most guys were attributing it to Shaq back then ( which was only partly true )

  • Datkid

06 Kobe you might have a point about, but no way was 03 kobe better than 03 Tmac lol… 03 Tmac had 1 of the greatest individual seasons in nba history

  • Drig

One of the greatest individual seasons. Yes. However, Kobe back then was just as good through the season as TMac on O and better on D. TMac did it with a worse cast. That makes it better. However, even in ’03, Kobe was on par with TMac’s abilities on both ends.

  • Datkid

He was better on D, but he was inferior offensively. Kobe had to go hard to match him, but Tmac was that good naturally.
