Kevin Love Won’t Apologize for Critical Comments, Says He Wants to Retire as a Timberwolf

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar forward Kevin Love raised eyebrows yesterday around the NBA, following the publication of a story in which he openly ripped his bosses. Today, the media asked Love to expand on his comments. Kevin spoke to the press after meeting with Timberwolves GM David Kahn and head coach Rick Adelman. He did not back down from his comments, and only regretted that he went public with his frustrations. The Pioneer Press has the quotes: “I thought the story was going to be more positive,’ Kevin Love said. ‘I said a lot more positive things about the team.’ Timberwolves all-star forward Kevin Love said. He has spoken to David Kahn about his comments that were critical of the Wolves’ president of basketball operation and owner Glen Taylor, and that Kahn ‘wasn’t happy about it.’ [...] Love didn’t retract his comments but regretted the story becoming a ‘negative article.’ … ‘I know what I said,’ Love said. ‘The only thing I’m sorry about is that I did it in public. If there’s a learning experience from that, it’s to not do that again.’ [...] When asked Wednesday if he still wanted to be a cornerstone of the Wolves franchise, Love said, ‘Absolutely. I want to be here for five years. I want to end my career as a Timberwolf” … ‘I mentioned in the summer that I’m very happy with the acquisitions we made,’ Love said. ‘As far as the state of the team, we’re fine. I’m not going to fall back on what I said, but this is the closest-knit team I’ve been on. The coaching staff has been great. We have a chance to make something very special this year. I’m definitely happy.’”

I love K-Love (no pun intended) but he needs to stop contridicting himself. I was not mad when he criticisized Kahn last year, but I have to say, the roster is much improved. Adding AK-47, Shveyd, etc, along with the improving Pekovic has the team playing pretty well. Once Rubio comes back, Minnesota is a playoff team.

go to agree with Love. Khan is an AWFUL GM. He drafts 3 pgs back to back
to back and keeps the worst one. I could see Rubio & Lawson
working. Rubio and Curry would have been amazing IMO. I know hindsight
is 20/20 but was anybody high on Flynn as a starter? Wesley Johnson over
Cousins? was anybody in agreement on that? Imagine a back court of
rubio and curry and a front court of cousins and love. Kurt Rambis as
coach? Seriously?? This guy gave Darko 20 mil! If Kevin Love performed
the duties required of him as poorly as David Khan has performed GM
duties, he’d be in the D-League or worse. Khan has remarked on beasley’s
drug use, the league’s fixed draft and a host of other topics. He’s an
idiot. He’s every bit as inept as Donald Sterling. Let’s lay off Kevin
Love a bit. The Derrick Williams drafting was defensible and the Rubio drafting showed some vision, although I’d argue it was more a marketing ploy and some luck. But Love & Pecovic (sp?) were on the team before Khan got there. Lets stop giving him credit for them. I know there are a lot of what-ifs but there’s no debating that Khan is every bit as bad as Sterling and Leonsis

Until the Spanish unicorn comes back to play, I could really care less about all the drama that is swirling in Minnesota right now.

    I’m siding with nobody here.

Glen Taylor is bad owner; just as awful if not as bad as Donald Sterling and the Maloofs; then again, if it was not for him giving Kevin Garnett that $120M+ enormous contract, the NBA wouldn’t have gone into that lockout in the late 90s. David Kahn is a horrible GM when it comes to drafting and evaluating talent. He sounds like a used-car salesman with the broken record technique. He got lucky with the Rubio pick and blew the next pick on Flynn when it should have been Steph Curry. That’s just unforgivable. Contract-wise, after reviewing salaries (thanks, Larry Coon), it’s not so bad. If you look up and down, not a single contract is bad and they’re quite movable in a trade and did I mentioned he financed Kurt Rambis’s buyout through the draft? LOL They even made a David Kahn Rule in the new CBA; no team can receive any more than $3M cash via trade.

Kevin Love has the right to his opinion but watching him play is a mixed bag. It’s great that he can board and make it rain from downtown but seriously he’s got to stop screaming at ref’s for superstar calls that he’s not going to get. And while he’s doing that, my Bulls would be taking it to the hoop for a 5 on 4. Seriously, if I was him, I would have taken the qualifying offer, played for a year, and then left via free agency instead of signing that 4-year, $60M contract. Like I’ve said all along, the writing is already on the wall; he’s going to the LAkers whether it be through trade or free agency. He would be welcome here in Chicago but Thibs preaches defense here which is Love’s Achilles heel. And is it me, but Rubio is the face of that franchise, not Love, right?

Minny deserves a better owner and better ran franchise. This was where Mikan/Baylor lead the Lakers to many champions before the move to LA. A Mark Cuban like owner with Kevin Pritchard at the helm would solve their problems.

not too much when you think about the whole Pau and Ricky Rubio combo. not really basketball wise in my opinion but I’ve been hearing rumors the Wolves trying to get them two together for years

  • everynowhere

He’s finally good enough to call out team management. They grow up so fast.

  • Mike From Spain

The previous story with comments said Love did not like the roster turnover, and seeing so many new faces every training camp… Khan has been churning the roster at a high rate. The league is strewn with ex-Wolves players. But, isn’t this also the very reason they are doing good this year?

Kevin Love fo Pau? maybe if the Lakers next 50 first round draft picks were thrown in

  • theDankerNuggets

keeping in mind what Kevin Love just said about the Timberwolves front office, i think if the Lakers were to able to whip up a little more value (not sure if they have much more on their roster after the superstars), it’s not that outlandish that Minny would consider such a deal

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

Well considering Love is better than Pau…and Love is like 8 years younger…they’d have to whip up a lot of value. And they have zero assets besides Pau, Nash, Howard, Kobe…there is absolutely no scenario where Love could end up on the Lakers

  • theDankerNuggets

im not saying it’s really very likely or that i expect it, but here is a scenario that could absolutely happen for arguments sake: Love’s relationship continues to sour with the wolves and starts to affect his play, Pau comes back and plays like his old self (the best passing big in the game, very versatile scorer, decent defender). at that point, that deal, and having Pau and Rubio on the same team would be very tempting for the Wolves

I can’t lie…no matter how non plausible it may be, seeing Rubio and Pau click would be NICE :) it makes me slightly wet
